for the euchre party at St.
James Anglican church.

Dixon; lone hands - Helen
McDonald and Eileen Harris;
low scores - Margaret Riddell
and Ed Armstrong. The next
party is February 15.
Edie Wortbington returned
home from St. Joseph's
Hospital on Monday where
she underwent surgery on her
eye last Friday. Her sister-in-
law, Helen Scott of Lakefield,
is spending a few days with
her.
Jerry and Lori Morgan,
Jonathan and Christopher,
have moved into their new
home they built on the lot next
to Jerry's parents, Mr. and
Mrs.. Earl Morgan.
Ruth and Alan Hill, Bar-
bara and Clarence Carter ar-
rived home Sunday evening
from a holiday in Florida.
Enroute home they visited
with John and Pat Brownlee
and family in Savannah,
Georgia and also toured
Washington.
Mary and Michael Smith,
Meg and Becky, St. Marys
were Sunday visitors with the

- There were ten tables of
euchre and one• table of
crokinole inplay at the
Craigwiel Activity Centre last
I onday afternoon. Many
guests were present from the
Parkhill Leisure Club. Mar-
tha Rigney received the high
prize for -euchre while the low
prize went to Carmen
Stewart. The prize for the
most lone hands went to
George Cooper and Ross Hern
received the prize for
crokinole. Tea and cookies
were served by the Activity
Centre Committee.
"Serve with pride" was the -
subject for the Annual Op-
timist Public Speaking for
area schools that was held at
the Craigwiel Activity Centre
on Wednesday evening.

Community Centre Monday
evening convened by Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Harvey and Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Kooy. There were
14 tables playing. Prize win-
ners were as follows: ladies
high, Ann Gilmour; lone
hands, Viola Atkinson; low,
Helen MacDonald; men's
high, Maurice MacDonald;
lone hands, Percy Noels; low.
Laverne Heywood; special,
Olive Atkins, Sam Skinner.
The next party in two weeks
on February 21 will be con-
vened by Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Macdonald, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Dickens and Olive
Atkinson.
Mrs. Minnie Harrison Was
a guest at a birthday party in
her honour at the home of her
son Mr. and Mrs. Roy Har-
rison. Mr. and Mrs. K•:n
Tilley and Sarah, London
were also present.
The senior citizens met in
the community centre Mon-
day afternoon. Rev. Crowe of
the United Church showed
slides followed by euchre and
lunch.

Men's club donates
to minor athletics

Dashwood Men's Club held
the dinner meeting, Monday,
with 27 members present.
Ray Hartman, president,
presided for the business.
A motion was made to give
$500 to the minor athletic
club; also to give $25 to Big
Brothers and Big Sisters
bowlathon•The Men's club is
sponsoring a Valentine dance
February 11 at the commtini-
ty centre.

We are sorry to report the
death of Mrs. Minnie Robert -
soh (nee Sherritt) widow of
the late George Robertson.
(1948). She passed away after
a sudden illness at Leam-
ington General Hospital on
February 3. The funeral took
place from Duto Funeral
Home in Leamington on Mon-
day on her 93rd birthday.
Mrs. Roberston was born
and raised in this community
and taught in different
schools in the area (including •
Shipka) before her marriage.
She was a sister of the late
Mrs. Herbert Harlton.

Becky and Sarah, attended a
familyluncheonatthehome of
Linda's grandma, Mrs.
Gladys Hern, Exeter, on Sun-
day and celebrated the birth-
day of Linda's father, Robert
Hern of Woodham. .
Don, Sharon and Jamie
Baker, visited Sunday in
Stratford with Ken and Carol
Baker, Bonnie, Tracey and
Sheltie.
Hugh and I observed our
42nd wedding anniversary
quietly last Tuesday
February 1. In the afternoon
we had a lovely anniversary
cake delivered for supper,
also a pot of mums and fruit
from some special relatives
and friends.
Visiting with us last Thurs-
day from out of the area were
Hugh's sister, Mrs. John Cor-
bett, Hensall, Mrs. Ross Cor-
bett, Mrs. Steve Corbett and
our great, great nephew,
Gerry Corbett, all of Hensall
area.
Don't forget the euchre par-
ty being held at the Communi-
ty Centre here tonight,
February 9.

Dashwood Women's In-
stitute met Tuesdsay after-
noon with 14 members pre-
sent. Vice-president, Mrs.
Harvey Beierling presided for
the business.
A rug braiding course will
be held ill the fall. The March
meeting will be held at 2 p.m.
when Mrs. Earl Keller will
show slides of their trip to
Australia. A donation of $5.00
is to be made for the conven-
tion souvenirs at Vancouver.
The Officers' Conference
will be held at Waterloo with
Mrs. Eben Weigand,
delegate.
Mrs. Margaret Carroll was
chairlady for the program.
She gave an excellent talk on
world pollution and atomic
energy. Mrs. Syd Baker
discussed the motto, senior

Bill Bennett left for Regina
Tuesday, February 8th. After
spending three weeks with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Bennett, London, and at
Dashwood with Mr. and Mrs.
Irvin Rader and other
relatives. Sharon and Nathan
will stay for another two
weeks.
• Harry Hayter, who has
been a patient in University
Hospital, London is expected
home later this week.

plan activities

South Huron District High
School's student council has
planned many activities for
the otherwise dull month of
February.
This Friday the full-length
feature movie Raiders of the
Lost Ark is showing at the
jgh school at 8:30 p.m. for
U.50. President Jamie Chaffe
hopes that the Exeter Hawks
crucial home game against
Belmont will not hurt atten-
dance at the movie.
This week students at South
Huron will be able to write
messages to their Valentines
for five cents a card. The stu-
dent council will deliver the
Valentine candy kisses on
Valentine's Day. Monday is
also a Hug Day.
Mike Mandel will have a
repeat engagement at South
Huron the afternoon of Fri-
day, February 11. The men-
talist has entertained South
Huron audiences for the past
several years with his amaz-
ing mental powers and
controls.
A recent survey of South
Huron students expressed the
need and desire for a Sadie
Hawkins Dance. This year is
somewhat different. The
dance is called WASHGAM.
(Women Around South Huron
Get A Man).
Friday February 25 the live
band Doc Savage will play his
Top 40 repertoire. DocSavage
is noted to be a good request
band. As an added attraction
the students council will raf-
fle or auction off several
volunteer males to female
students who are in need of a
date for WASHGAM.
