Fail to pasbyIaw on
chqrging of non -water users
There was a division of opi_
nion among Grand Bend
councillors Monday night -
overpassing a bylaw to
charge village residents for
water if they don't hook into
the system. The bylaw didn't,;
receive a third reading.
All of the arguments, pro
and con, regarding who was
subsidizing who, and fire pro-
tection and the use of wells vs' --
the pipe -line. system wet .
brought forward. Finally -the
group felt the matter needed •
further consideration.
Councillor Murray Des Jar -
dins presented a newly revis-
ed sign bylaw. Councillors
decided to study the' docu-
ment further to fill in some
loop -holes.
In consideration of tax ar-
rears there was a resolution
to the effect that once
registration of a property has
commenced, ie: lands have
been registered to the village
for non payment of taxes; on-
ly full payment of back taxes
will • be accepted by the
village.
DesJardins requested that
council meet with members
of the PUC to sort out several
questions "eyeball to
eyeball".There are outstan-
ding questions of payment for
property, water rates and
charges=for clerical work.
A request from Roy
Johnson for the village to find,
by survey, the 66 feet fronting
on River road, which are not
recorded in the old official
survey map, was referred
back to him with the sugges-
tion that it was a civil matter
and should be sorted out
'among the owners in the area.
The old survey records 66 feet
Tess than the actual frontage.
It was decided to apply for
an Ontario Neighbourhood
,Improvement grant as well as
grants to allow university
students to survey future
needs in the village.
Councillor Bruce Woodley
reported that the budget for
recreation had been cut by
about eight percent. Des Jar -
dins felt there should be a
small registration fee for
children attending the Busy
Bee Day Camp.
Warner Auto -Marine was
granted the changes in zoning
for two commercial proper-
ties which were previously re -
Music treat.40t GB
It was a rare treat on a dull
February night in Grand
Bend for 150 local persons to
hear nice music in concert at
Grand Bend United Church
performed by area musi-
cians, Saturday.
It's one thing to hear
famous flutist Jean Pierre
Rampal or Jazzman Moe
Kaufman playing thesecond
Bach Sonata on record. It's a
far richer thing to experience
the music in concert as it was
played by featured soloist
Robert Van Wyck Saturday
night. And he was backed ad

Four mishaps
Four collisions were in-
vestigated by the Exeter
pr lice department this week.
No injuries were repotted.
On Thursday, a vehicle
operated by Peter Zankowski.
RR 2 Staffa, collided with,;,
parked vehicle owned by Jean
Faber, 61 Nelson St., Exeter.
The mishap occurred on An-
drew Sl. and damage was
listed at $500 by Constahle
Kierstead.
Two collisions were
reported on Friday. the first
involving vehieles driven by
Roy Pepper, 173 Huron -St..
and William Renning, RR 1
Exeter. It occurred on Iluron
L•St. and total damage was set
at $400 by Constable Sadler.
The other crash was at 5:00
p.m. on William St. and in:
volvrrd vehicles driven by
Brian Prost, RR 3 Exeter,
and William Smith. 93
Sanders. Damage was listed
at S2,500 by Constable
Robertson.
On Monday, 19 -year-old
Paul Scott. 120 Sanders, was
involved in a collision with a
vehicle as he was walking
across Main Sl. near the in-
tersection of Gidley. Ile
escaped injury. The vehicle
was driven by It Tarim' Hill.
Brucefield.
and pianist Lynn Tremain.
Van Wyck, who has music
degrees from McMaster and
McGill universities and is
now at Althouse College, Lon-
don, is flute teacher for Tre-
main and for concert
organizer Dawn Crabe. Ile
played with ease and grace
and obviously enjoyed his
music. An arrangement of
Gabriel Faure's Fantasie,.
again accompanied by Tre-
main, was quite spellbinding.
Crabe and Tremain com-
bined their flute -voices in two
duets and at the end of the,
concert in a trio with Van
Wyck, which was a Scott
Joplin rhythm set in Baroque
style.
Local ginger. Roberta
Walker, sang three solos from
Kismet and Brigadoon with
her splendid, easy voice and
with obvious understanding
and love for the music.
A light touch in the pro-
gramming was two 'fun' solos
by North Lambton Secondary
School student,, Tom Adams_
playinghis big tuba. His
teacher, music director at the
school, Tim Rummel put his
trumpet to work with
Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary
and with some thematic
material from a Mozart Horn
Concerto. Hummel is director
to the Forest Excelsior Band.
London singer, Victoria
Dodge sang three songs with
remarkable articulation. She
is a specialist in medieval
music.
Forest pianist Robert Enns
added his sensitive talent in
accompaniment The group--",-,
had the piano well tuned and
the accoustical qualities of the
church added to the fine
sounds`
Terry (trate introduced the
musicians and the musicians
themselves introduced the
music. As announced, it was
indeed music for everyone

quested. Another decision
with regards to Warner was
that the rate for boat dockage
for the spring boat show on

by the Harbour Committee.
Representative, Dennis
Snider, being absent, it was
decided to set harbour deci-

meeting of council.
There was a report from
Gregus Construction saying
that the new fire hall was

Woodley agreed anent,
meetings of "the Lambton
- Board of Education study
committee which is consider-
ing a secondary school closing
in the area.
Councillors agreed tottave
the land in the area of
Municipal Drive properly
surveyed so that the lines of
ownership could be mapped
on a registered plan. Planners
have advised the village that
Municipal Drive should be
dedicated as a public street.
There was a decision to turn
down a request from Nick
Carter for concession rights
to soft drink machines on
village property. The •group
ruled in favour of allowing
Peter to once more place a
pop machine at the bath
house on a profit-sharing plan
with the village.
There was_ a refund of the
Transient Traders' fee to For
Goodness Sake, the health
food store, and a decision to
increase the fee in the future
by $50.
A request by Woodley for a
garbage box in plan 24 was
referred back to the PLO.
