ROBERT LAING Wednesday evening, a large barn belonging to Kenneth and Lynda Johns was totally destroyed by fire. Mrs. Johns had just finished milking their dairy herd when the fire was dis- covered. The cows were driven to a neighbouring farm. but several calves were lost in the fire. There was very little wind at the time al -lowing the smoke to rise straight up into the air and be visible for a long distance. Mitchell firemen were in attendance and concentrated on saving a nearby granary. A quantity of last year's hay and straw were lost as well as the milking equipment. Cromarty Cubs and their leaders, Bill and Rhea Cameron camped out at the Perth Cuboree at Wildwood Lake last weekend. At the same time the Scouts attend- ed their Camporee which was held a mile north of the Cub Camp. The scouts. along with their leader Joost Drost, assisted by Murray Laing, enjoyed a three-mile hike and canoe trip. Unfortunate- ly, Saturday night's rain dampened some of their events, sending the boys scampering for their tents. During the church service Sunday. Jean Carey gave a very informative account of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, which was held in Ottawa recently Mrs. Carey was one of three delegates from Perth. the other two being Rev. The Clinton firm will pave the road from County road 4 to the end of the Stephen Central School property for $7,392.45. It was the lowest of fire bids received. One of the three tenders called in connection with construction of Concession 8- 9 between Lots 16 and 20 was received and accepted. Jennison Construction of Grand Bend will supply and spread B gravel for $2.05 per yard. The A gravel tender is being held up for furthur consideration and clay will not be used in this recon- struction. Road superintendent Eric Finkbeiner was given permission to purchase a V snowplow from Champion Machinery Sales of Goderich for $500. Huron county planner George Penfold attended the meeting and reported most of the changes in the township's secondary plan suggested by the Ministry of Housing had been made. Clerk Wil!nar Wein said the secondary plan is close to being accepted. He added, Most of the changes were in adapting to the metric system. Five tile drain loan ap- plications were approved for a total of $23,.300. The fire protection agreement with McGillivray township is being updated. The Huron Park and Crediton fire departments will service the area along county road 5 from Highway 4 to the Mud Creek. Council gave their support to three resolutions. They were from the town of Tecumseh objecting to high interest rates, the township of Kingston against high education costs and the city of Mississauga regarding assessment review courts. Mississauga officials feel appeals on assessments are held up too long some times as much as two years. On a suggestion from ROMA the bylaw allowing the levying of Federation of Agriculture fees was rescinded. FACE CHARGES Three area menhavebeen charged with possession of stolen property after a $24,- 000 Cadillac was found ex- tensively damaged near Crediton. Scheduled to appear in Ex- eter court are William Thomas Moffatt, 17, Huron Park; Martin Vincent McVeeney, 18, Ailsa Craig; and Gary Orven Spurn, 18, Centralia. The 1980 model car was stolen from the Ailsa Craig area on June 7 and OPP Constable Bill McIntyre said damage to the vehicle was around $6,000. McVeeney has also been charged with break and enter of the J.A.D.
