Barn burns
at Cromarty
By MRS. ROBERT LAING
Wednesday evening, a
large barn belonging to
Kenneth and Lynda Johns
was totally destroyed by
fire. Mrs. Johns had just
finished milking their dairy
herd when the fire was dis-
covered.
The cows were driven to a
neighbouring farm. but
several calves were lost in
the fire.
There was very little wind
at the time al -lowing the
smoke to rise straight up
into the air and be visible for
a long distance.
Mitchell firemen were in
attendance and concentrated
on saving a nearby granary.
A quantity of last year's hay
and straw were lost as well
as the milking equipment.
Cromarty Cubs and their
leaders, Bill and Rhea
Cameron camped out at the
Perth Cuboree at Wildwood
Lake last weekend. At the
same time the Scouts attend-
ed their Camporee which
was held a mile north of the
Cub Camp.
The scouts. along with
their leader Joost Drost,
assisted by Murray Laing,
enjoyed a three-mile hike
and canoe trip. Unfortunate-
ly, Saturday night's rain
dampened some of their
events, sending the boys
scampering for their tents.
During the church service
Sunday. Jean Carey gave a
very informative account of
the General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church in
Canada, which was held in
Ottawa recently Mrs. Carey
was one of three delegates
from Perth. the other two
being Rev. Edwin Nelson,
Avonton and Rev. Vernon
Tozer. of Listowel.

the lowest of fire bids
received.

Huron county planner

meeting and reported most
of the changes in the
township's secondary plan
suggested by the Ministry of
Housing had been made.
Clerk Wil!nar Wein said
the secondary plan is close to
being accepted. He added,
Most of the changes were in
adapting to the metric
system.
Five tile drain loan ap-
plications were approved for
a total of $23,.300.
The fire protection
agreement with McGillivray
township is being updated.
The Huron Park and

to three resolutions. They
were from the town of
Tecumseh objecting to high
interest rates, the township
of Kingston against high
education costs and the city
of Mississauga regarding
