Eleven to go
Off to district track
A record number of
athletes from South Huron
District High will be com-
peting in Saturdays Ontario
regional track and field
meet at Centennial Stadium
in Kitchener
Coaches Terry O'Rourke
and Joe Fulop will be tak-
ing 11 competitors to the
regional. The six top
finishers in each event will
qualify for the OFSA finals
in Thunder Bay on June 5
and 6.
The South Huron entrants
in Kitchener qualified by
placing in the top five in
each event at the WOSSA
comptition held in London
Wednesday and Thursday.
Dave Shaw and Jeff Rowe
will be strong threats in the
boys junior javelin toss as
they finished one-two in
WOSSA.

Steve Pearce won the
senior boys javelin at the
Huron -Perth level and was
second at WOSSA.
Shaw's winning toss at
WOSSA was 57.52 metres
with Rowe close behind with
an even 52 metres.
In the senior javelin, Kris
Riseling of London Banting
was the winner at 57.82
metres just shading Pearce
at 57.45 metres.
The other senior boys en-
trant at South Huron is Matt
McClure who was fourth in
the 400 metre run and fourth
in the open 400 metre
hurdles.
The South Huron midget
girls relay team composed
of Jackie Cottrell,Charlene
Verbeek, Lisa Rndle and
Susan McClure were fourth
in the 4 x 100 metre relay.
Individually in midget
girls, Susan Birmingham
was third in the 800 metres,
Susan McClure third in 200
metres and Jackie Cottrell
was second in the 400 and
fifth in 100 metres.
Maja Gans was fifth in the
junior girls long jump and
Derek Hippern was fifth in
the midget boys high jump.

Astros win
two games
The Lucan Astros won twq
games this week in the
Southwestern fastball league
and dropped two games in a
tournament In Sylvan.
Thursday night strong
pitching from Rick Freeman
and an explosive hitting
attack led the Astros to a
convincing 19-4 victory over
Sylvan.
The 19 run attack was
spearheaded by home runs
from the bats of Jim Benn,
Paul Gilmour and Scott
McNair.
Paul Wraith recorded his
second pitching win of the
season Friday night as the
Astros edged Exeter 4-2.
Dean Densmore led the
Astros with two great
defensive plays and added a
run scoring single in the
sixth inning.
In the Sylvan tourney,
Lucan lost 7-4 to Southwold
and 9-4 to West Corners.
In the loss to Southwold
Len Anderson cracked two
home runs and Paul Medd
added one round tripper.
The Astros will be back in
action tomorrow night,
Thursday when they play
host to Ilderton. Game time
is 7 p.m.
