Granton church ladies continue study of Bible women

GRANTON
Unit (1) met at the home of
Miss Mabel McNaughton, on
May 6. Mrs. Gordon
McRobert presided and
opened the meeting with
lesson thoughts on the
"futility of running away."
Mrs. Robert Hardie
convened the program on the
continuing Bible study series
on "women of the Bible."
This dealt with the story of
Naomi and her daughter-in-
law Ruth, and the ex-
planation that Ruth was a
direct ancestor of Jesus
Christ by her second
husband Boaz. A good
discussion resulted from this
study.
'Then' Mrs:- -Hardie - -coir=
ducted a word contest with a
spring message as the
solution. Mrs. Elwood
Morden assisted the hostess
to serve a cold ham supper
with salads and dessert.
Mrs. Fred Hardie was the
hostess for Unit (4). Mrs.
Cliff Hardie presided
During the business
period, -a bake sale to be held
at the Prospect Hill Camp
was discussed. It was also
announced that two quilts
had been completed.
In place of a program it
had been decided earlier to
hold a workshop at this
meeting. In order to get a
head start on making ar-
ticles for the bazaar. Mrs.
Floyd Dykes and Mrs. Tom
Gagan assisted the hostess
with lunch.
Unit (3) met at the home of
Mrs. Garfield Nixon. Mrs.
Eric Chovancek presided
and opened the meeting with
a reading on mothers-in-law.
Mrs. Cliff Cook and Mrs.
Robert Garrett convened the
program on the current Bible
study on the stories of
women in the Bible. This
time it was the story of
Naomi and her daughter-in-
law Ruth. An interesting
discussion followed.
UCW Members attend
Regional Rally
Five members of Granton
U.C.W. attended the regional
rally held at Zion Church on
May 4. They were the
following ladies, Mrs.
Wilfred Garrett General
U.C.W. president, Mrs. Chas
Gowan, Mrs. Nelson Tate,
Mrs. Fred Cook and Mrs.
Elmer Summers.
The friendly neighbors
club
The friendly neighbors
club have resumed their
meetings at the Scout Hall.
Members met on Thursday
afternoon. There was a good
attendance. Games of
euchre and pool were en-
joyed, followed by a social
time and refreshments.
The next meeting will be
tomorrow, Thursday af-
ternoon at 1:30 p.m.
Church news
At the United Church the
Rev Elwood Morden was in
charge of the worship for
Mothers Day and. Christian
Family Day, and also of-
ficiated at the sacrament of
baptism. Rev. Mordens
message was entitled "a
matter of tradition."
He said a Christian home
is one where all activities
center around Jesus Christ.
Most of us will be thankful for
the parents we have had. The
home is the oldest institution
on earth, it precedes the
church, it is a place where
love is the foundation, and
good parents are a priceless
blessing

dedicated. Following the
dedication, Mrs. Elwyn
Bryan played some of the
Middleton family's favorite
hymns, also during, the
morning service the hymns
were accompanied by Mrs.
Bryan on the organ, and Mr. e
Doug Barr organist for
Wesley United Church on the
new piano.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church the Rev Greg Smith
was in charge of the morning
prayer service for Mother's
Day. The Epistle of the day
was read by Kenny Beatson.
Miss Marion Herbert read
the gospel from St. John.
Rev. Smith preached his
sermon from the Epistle of
the Day,- describing the
ancient world as a -mall
community of Cht tstian
people who modelled a
pattern for all people. Si.

St. Thomas Church
ladies meet
The ladies of St. Thorns :
Anglican Church held their
May meeting Thursday
evening in the church hall,
with 12 members present.
Mrs. Norman Hodgins
opened the meeting with
prayer. Mrs. Lois Herbert,
delegate to the Anglican
Church Women's Conference
of the Huron Diocese, held at
St. James Westminster
Church, London April 30
gave an interesting account
of the day's meeting.
The ladies then devoted an
hour to a workshop, cutting
blocks out for a quilt for the
fall bazaar.
