Easter special
at public. school
This year Easter probably
has taken on a new meaning
for the pupils at the Lucan
Public School. Each morning
of the week leading up to
Easter, the approximately
200 kindergarten to Grade 3
pupils took part in an
assembly where they were
presented with the Easter
story in filmstrips and
records. The story
progressed from the
Betrayal, through the Trial,
the Crucifixion and the
Resurrection.
Another very interesting
assembly took place with a
visit from Mr. Roger Miller,
assistant superintendent of
the Roberts School for the
Hearing Handicapped. He
spoke to the children and
taught them about com-
municating by signs with the
hard of hearing.
This was in preparation for
the field trip which Lucan
pupils will make to the May
Court Marionette Show on
May 13. On that date the only
other pupils in the audience
will be deaf children from
the Robarts School.
May Court members will
be presenting the story of
Peter Pan using hand signals
as well as the voices used in
the regular Marionette
Show. This seems like a very
fitting way to make the
"Year of the Disabled" more
realistic to our children.
Also present for the
assembly were Mrs. J.
Kwasnicki and her twin sons
Nathan, who is deaf and
attends Roberts School, and
Matthew a kindergarten
pupil in Lucan. They spoke to
each other in sign language.
Good Friday morning two
grade 3 pupils from Dorothy
Nott's room, Jennifer
Glendenning and John
Jones, journeyed to CFPL
radio. London, to take in the
money raised by the Junior
School for Bunny Bundle.
The children were asked to
do extra jobs for friends and
relatives to earn money to
donate to Crippled Children.
They all worked very hard
and came up with the
magnificent sum of Two

and fifty cents.

Good Friday service
The usual Good Friday
Service in Lucan United
Church was far from "the
usual", and it was wonderful
to see how the Teens class
had prepared such in-
teresting centres, along with
their teacher Barb Ban-
nerman and superintendent
Jim Robertson.
Tabatha and Neil Froats
welcomed those attending
and distributed the orders of
service.
Following the opening
hymn, a Scripture and
Prayer by Rev. Keith
Brown, Mr. Robertson ex-
plained what we would find
as we progressed from group
to group in the C.E. rooms. A
film, shown by Tami
McRoberts , with questions
being asked of those viewing
it, in order to get us thinking,
four learning centres, first,
using the painting media to
show what Easter and or the
Resurrection means to us,
second the use of Christian
Symbols, third making
banners or posters and lastly
the making of collages.
When all had progressed
through the learning
situations they returned tc
the Sanctuary to discuss, it
small groups, the questions
"Why did Jesus have to die
for me?" and "What dif-
ference does His
Resurrection make to me?"
A brief report was made by a
member of each group.
Holy Communion was
celebrated, following the
singing of a hymn and
members felt they had really
spent 11/2 hours in
meaningful worship.
Young sharing in this
presentation along with
Tami, included Ray and Ted

Easter special
at public. school
This year Easter probably
has taken on a new meaning
for the pupils at the Lucan
Public School. Each morning
of the week leading up to
Easter, the approximately
200 kindergarten to Grade 3
pupils took part in an
assembly where they were
presented with the Easter
story in filmstrips and
records. The story
progressed from the
Betrayal, through the Trial,
the Crucifixion and the
Resurrection.
Another very interesting
assembly took place with a
visit from Mr. Roger Miller,
assistant superintendent of
the Roberts School for the
Hearing Handicapped. He
spoke to the children and
taught them about com-
municating by signs with the
hard of hearing.
This was in preparation for
the field trip which Lucan
pupils will make to the May
Court Marionette Show on
May 13. On that date the only
other pupils in the audience
will be deaf children from
the Robarts School.
May Court members will
be presenting the story of
Peter Pan using hand signals
as well as the voices used in
the regular Marionette
Show. This seems like a very
fitting way to make the
"Year of the Disabled" more
realistic to our children.
Also present for the
assembly were Mrs. J.
Kwasnicki and her twin sons
Nathan, who is deaf and
attends Roberts School, and
Matthew a kindergarten
pupil in Lucan. They spoke to
each other in sign language.
Good Friday morning two
grade 3 pupils from Dorothy
Nott's room, Jennifer
Glendenning and John
Jones, journeyed to CFPL
radio. London, to take in the
money raised by the Junior
School for Bunny Bundle.
The children were asked to
do extra jobs for friends and
relatives to earn money to
donate to Crippled Children.
They all worked very hard
and came up with the
magnificent sum of Two
Hundred and Four Dollars
and fifty cents.

boys and thank you, Moms.

pleted a six month course in

England. Dr. Nunn invited
him to come to Canada and
he left his wife and children

Good Friday service
The usual Good Friday
Service in Lucan United
Church was far from "the
usual", and it was wonderful
to see how the Teens class
had prepared such in-
teresting centres, along with
their teacher Barb Ban-
nerman and superintendent
Jim Robertson.
Tabatha and Neil Froats
welcomed those attending
and distributed the orders of
service.
Following the opening
hymn, a Scripture and
Prayer by Rev. Keith
Brown, Mr. Robertson ex-
plained what we would find
as we progressed from group
to group in the C.E. rooms. A
film, shown by Tami
McRoberts , with questions
being asked of those viewing
it, in order to get us thinking,
four learning centres, first,
using the painting media to
show what Easter and or the
Resurrection means to us,
second the use of Christian
Symbols, third making
banners or posters and lastly
the making of collages.
When all had progressed
through the learning
situations they returned tc
the Sanctuary to discuss, it
small groups, the questions
"Why did Jesus have to die
for me?" and "What dif-
ference does His
Resurrection make to me?"
A brief report was made by a
member of each group.
Holy Communion was
celebrated, following the
singing of a hymn and
members felt they had really
spent 11/2 hours in
meaningful worship.
Young sharing in this
presentation along with
Tami, included Ray and Ted
Hall, Sheila Jones, Carolyn
Lankin, Terri McRoberts,
Linda and Leslie Patterson.
A warm "Thank you" to
these young people with their
teacher and superintendent
for sharing with us such a
great learning experience.
Unable to be present on
Friday evening, but working
on the project also were
Kelly and Darryl Ibbitson
and Brent Bannerman.
