Times-Advocate, 1981-02-18, Page 23The readers write Concerned over KKK Dear Editor: With disgust and a feeling of doom, I heard the news about the possibility of the Klu Klux Klan establishing a military camp in south western Ontario. Despite the fact that we live in a democratic society this is stepping out of the boundaries of democracy and making a mockery of our freedom and individual rights. It is also difficult to believe that there isn't a law in our so-called "judicial system" that can com- pletely eliminate this type of propaganda and prejudice. Unfortunately a major part of our population are Anglo-Saxon and they will be sitting in the safety of their homes with a conceived and fantastical idea that they are' protected by divine right from this type of insidious activities. I feel it is of utmost im- portance to take a stand by 1) make the media aware of the implications of this kind of unjust activity. You may feel separeted and protected but this smacks of Nazi Germany. If we allow this to happen other radical and prejudiced groups will settle in and there will begroups Saintsbury singer in choir trip Sy MRS. HEBER DAVIS Miss Marylou Tindall accompanied the Medway choir to Toronto for choir competitions, Saturday. The choir placed second in two diiisions. Church service was held at the home of Mrs. H.F. Davis the to furnace problems at the church. Mrs. Ron Carroll read the Gospel lesson. Rev. Smith spoke on rmning the race of life and stressed the need for a goal. Ile conducted Holy Com- munion service and led on the guitar for the singing of the hymns. Mrs. Raymond Greenlee Exeter,Mrs.H.F. Davis were guests with Mr. & Mrs. Earl Greenlee for several days this past week. Mrs. & Mrs. Bob Tindall visited Mr. & Mrs. Howard Clarke, Shipka recently. formed for the sole reason to eliminate other minorities such as homosexuals, Jews, Indians • the list is endless. Perhaps you feel this is an extreme exaggeration but the Jews in Nazi Germany felt protected and un- believing from theatrocities performed on fellow Jew and which resulted in a mass extermination. To perhaps think of these atrocities (a race war) happening again leavesmesickand falteringin my faith inhuman goodness. You can sit back and not invest any thought in the implications of what the KKK represents or you can invest some time and do something constructive. Write your local members of parliament (provincial and federal) and express your concern because we do live in a democratic society and public opinion is a strong influence in the governments decisions. Please think seriously of the implications and do something constructive or sit back in your cocoon of imaginary safety while military strategies are perhaps being performed in your backyard. Sunday service "The Church's claim' on You" was the subject chosen by Mr. Peter Snell for his sermon in the United Church Sunday morning. We owe the church the honesty of our beliefs. We should live, act, and be the kind of person God would want us to be. We should work hard to understand God's love for us and through Bible reading discover that the power of prayer is a daily and spiritual hygiene that we must practise. The church has a claim on our loyalty through worship, giving of our time, talents and possessions. "If we live in the spirit, also walk in the spirit". Mr. Snell not only ministers in message, leaving us with plenty of food for thought, but ministers in music by singintg to his own guitar accompaniment.
