Mary's musings
As you read this column, I
will be aboard a Wardair
747. flying into Toronto air-
port. I will be concluding one
week of holidays. basking in
the Florida sunshine. I hope.
You. on the other hand, may
have spent the past week
digging out of a winter
storm.
As I write this column, I
am worried about catching
that plane that's going to be
taking me to that Florida
sunshine.
You see. I'm writing this
on Monday evening of last
week. (Of course, to you. it's
right now Are you con-
fused'' I am.
Anyway. the weather
reports say that we will be
hit with freezing rain and
large quantities of snow
tomorrow. My husband and I
are supposed to drive to
Toronto through all that to
catch our plane. I sure hope
the weathermen are wrong.
Assuming that we survive
the winter driving, and make
it to the airport on time. we
will be landing in Tampa.
and spending the week with
my parents in Lakeland.
BY MARY ALDERSON
If we did get caught in a
snowstorm. you have
probably already heard my
agonized screams.
We're looking forward to
seeing my parents they
headed to Lakeland last
November. While the rest of
my family got together in
Florida for Christmas, Vic-
tor and I weren't able to be
there.
Well. next best thing to
spending Christmas with
your family, is spending
your birhtday with them.
Nly birthday was last Mon-
day. Had I been home, I
would have had to cover the
activities of Grand Bend
council that evening. Well,
nobody should have to do
that on a birthday, so I
planned to take my vacation
that week.
Did anyone else get a holi-
day on February 16? You
should have. if the Heritage
Canada group got its way.
They are promoting the
third Monday in February as
Heritage Day. They say that
since we don't celebrate the
birthdays of our Fathers of
Confederation. or heroes
such as John A. MacDonald.

then we should set aside one
day to celebrate Canada's
history.
That is all well and good,
but I think an even better
reason for having Heritage
Day is the fact that there are
no other long weekends in
February.
Apparently some
businesses are already pick-
ing up on the Heritage Day
holiday. It was a real thrill
for me to tear January off
my calendar. and see my
bithday printed in red ink in
February.
In any case. I hope you had
a Happy Heritage Day. And
if I made it to Florida, I'm
sure I did.
Anglicans
At the morning service at
St. Johns Anglican, Rev. G.
Anderson based his sermon
on "In the beginning God
created the Heavens and the
earth". This Sunday in the
Anglican calendar year is
known as creation Sunday.
Rev. Anderson compared
science and religion. In the
past they were in conflict -
today they are quite com-
patible.
Religion gives meaning to
science. Today Jesus gives
us the meaning for life in this
nuclear age.
He shows us how to live
with our values and our
morals and transforms
human life with honesty,
goodness and love for one
another.
Coffee hour hostesses
following the morning
service were Mrs. Hilda
Smith and Mrs. Rita Martin.
