Times-Advocate, 1981-02-18, Page 8• Page 8 Times•Advocate, February 18, 1981 Student from London Pilot unhurt as plane lands on Clandeboye farm Excitement Thursday when Sally Wilcox, a novice pilot from London was forced to land her single engine Cessna 150 and bring it to a safe halt on the farm of Arthur Hodgins of Clan- deboye. She walked the half mile through the deep snow to the home of Dick and Edie Worthington and asked to use their telephone to phone her instructor at the London Airport. The incident occurred when a manoeuvre which she was practising for her pilot's test went awry. The manoeuvre, called a power -off stall must be learned by novice pilots to give them a taste of problems that can be en- countered. The field where Sally landed was a plowed field but fortunately was well covered with hard frozen snow, making the landing much safer. Paul Hodgins ferried the police, London Free Press and CFPL TV reporters and photographers to and from the landing field on his snowmobile while Sally relaxed at the Worthington home. When the owner and mechanics from the Aero Academy arrived, they found the planeingood shape and were able to fly it out of the field. We have heard since that Sally .Wilcox tried the test and received her private pilot's licence Friday. Congratulations, to a mighty brave girl.
