Huron County had teams More given parking tag An increase in the number of parking tickets brought the only comment when Chief Ted Day presented his January report to council, Monday. The report indicated the police department issued 24 parking tickets in the month. Councillor Jay Campbell said that was a record number to his recollection and commended the officers, saying he was glad to hear that people were being ticketed for parking illegally. He said the people who park illegally make it difficult for others to drive around. Other statistics in the police report were as follows: 12 accidents with three minor injuries and damage of 86,000, five charges and 10 warnings given under the Highway Traffic Act, 14 investigations under the Liquor Control Act and two under the Narcotics Control Act, thefts totalling 8785 with 852 being recovered, six animal complaints, one wilful damage with property damage of 875, one threatening investigation, four domestic incidents. During the month, the officers recorded 26 hours in overtime. As part of the police committee recommenda- tion, Constable Dan Kier - stead will be elevated to the rank of 2nd class constable on March 14. Councillor Gaylan Josephson reported this was in recognition of his past experience. Kierstead has been involved in police work for eight years. He rejoined the department last year. When you're in construction, form follows function. Ask Mario. He fills out the UI Record of Employment perfectly every time an employee parts company. When you're in good company, stay in good form. .Mario hancA`personnel and finance matters for his hmther's construction company. And he knows that one of his responsibilities is to fill out a U1 Record of Employment form every time an employee has an interruption in earnings. He knows that if he doesn't get it right the first time, he may have to do it again. So Mario took the time to get the booklet "flow to Complete the Record of Employ- ment" from his nearby Canada Employment Centre. Leaving in good form. The Record of Employment is one way we can make sure no one gets short-changed and no one gets overpaid. This saves time and money for everyone involved. Mario found out that the most common mistake is in reporting the "Insurable Earnings". Insurable earnings arc not necessarily the same as payroll earnings. Because Mario fills out the ROE accurately, ex-employees don't have to come hack to him for changes.:1nd neither do we. It's just good business to he in good form. At Unemployment Insurance, we process about 4,000,000 Records of Employment every year. Last year, employer mistakes in filling out the form cost at least S125,000,000 in overpayments. Plus the cost of recovering those overpayments and penalizing or pmsccuting. We're out to cut down that S125,000,000. And we're going to do it, together. 1+ Employment and E mplol el Immigration Canada Immigration Canada Lloyd Airworthy Lloyd Airworthy. FUN- BUT NOT FAIR -- Junior Farmer provincial president Tom Callahan, (centre) trips a member of the Huron County Junior Former executive asthe two met in aexhibition broom - ball game. The game was an entertaining highlight of'Satur- day's Junior Farmer Winter Games. but were put out after the second. Ladies' badminton and the men's basketball teams, after losing their first games, were eliminated in the secound round of the B - division. The sporting events were finished off late in the day, with two exhibition broomball games. The first saw the Mid- dlesex Junior Farmers beat their Huron counterparts 2-1. The second game was the entertainment highlight of the day. The Huron county organization's executive took on the Junior Farmers provincial directors. The first half ended with Huron leading 1-0. It was agreed the teams would pay 85 for each goal they scored to the March of Dimes, on behalf of the Junior Far- mers. The provincial directors quickly overtook the Huron team and began to build up a lead. The referees seemed to support the province as they called some questionable penalties. The directors increased their players to 9 (from six) and kidnapped one of the Huron team. Huron answered by playing 11 people, and moving their net up the blue line. They also tackled Junior Farmer provincial president, Tom Callahan, who had scored two province goals. The province played their trump, sending in Paul Laidlaw on skates. During half time, the Huron team agreed to pay 820 for each goal they scored, so with the game ending 8-3 in favor -of tthe province, 8100 was raised for the March of Dimes. The players and a amall crowd at the South Huron Rec Centre seemed to enjoy themselves. Topping the day's events was a dance for all par- ticipants at the recreation centre. The winning teams were announced and awards will be presented at a later date. THERE GOES ANOTHER ONE — Kay Morrison (23) looks on as teammate Kathy Larone sinks another basket as the Huron County Junior Farmers ladies' basketball team went on to win their tournament as part of the association's winter games. This game was against Oxford County, at the South Huron and district High School, Saturday. QUALITY SELECTION • LOW PRICES
