Shipka couple celebrates

Congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Arnold Keller who
celebrated their 51st wed-
ding anniversary, Sunday.
Celebrating a 31st anniver-
sary the same day were
their daughter Audrey, Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Gibson, of
Crediton. The families had
dinner and supper together
at the parents home. Also
attending were Mark Gibson
and Ross Keller. Crediton,
Mr. and Mrs. Don Keller,
Goderich. Jack Keller,
Garry Gibson and son Brent
of Exeter.
Visitors earlier in the
week with the Sr. Keller's,
was their daughter Marian
and husband. Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Feltz, or Brinsley.
Funeral service
Funeral services were con-
ducted for Arthur E. Wood,
of Winnipeg. at the Bardal
Funeral home, on Janaury
17. 1981. in Winnipeg. He
passed away suddenly on
Hawaii Island. while on holi-
day on January 11 and was in

his 71st year. Surviving is his
wife Laura. of Winnipeg, two
daughters. Mrs. Willis
(Ella) Desjardine, of RR 2.
Dashwood. and Mrs. Shirley
Dawe. of Huron Park. also
thirteen grandchildren and
seven great grandchildren.
Predeceased by one
daughter. Mrs. Edna
MacDonald (1974).
Mr. Wood was born in
Windsor in 1910, and joined
the Lake Superior regiment
in Camp Borden in 1940. He
went overseas in September
1942 and saw duty in four
European countries. He was
a life long member of the
Royal Canadian Legion, was
accorded a full military
funeral. having received
eight medals during his ser-
vice career. Burial was at
the military cemetery in
Winnipeg.
Mr. Wood left Ontario in
1945. and has since resided in
Winnipeg until his death.

returned home last Monday
night. after attending her
father. Arthur E. Wood's,
funeral in Winnipeg. Ella
travelled out by train and
came home by plane, ac-
companied by her sister-in-
law. Mrs. Ches (Pearl)
Desjardine. While in Win-
nipeg Ella stayed at her
daughter's Cindy Desjar-
dine. who is stationed with
the Canadian Forces, and
visited other relatives.
Mrs. Mary Dietrich
visited last weeek in Strat-
ford. at her daughter's
home. Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Holman and family.
Doug and Ann Russell and
family. spent the weekend in
Stratford with Ken and Carol
Baker and family, and
celebrated Ken's birthday.
Don't forget the euchre
party being held here this
evening ,January 28.
Mr and Mrs. Ken Moore,
Julie and Brent of Sarnia,
were dinner guests Sunday,
with their grandfather, Mr.
Herbert Harlton and Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Fenner. Cheryl
Westman. of London arrived
Monday to spend a couple
days with her grandfather,
Mr. Harlton.

New officers named
Annual church meeting held at Thames Road

After the regular Sunday
church service a
smorgasbord pot luck dinner
was partaken of. Pastor
Ross Hargreaves then called
the meeting to order.
Jack Stewart was elected
chairman and Mrs. Donald
Bray was elected secretary
for the meeting. The minutes
of the last annual meeting
were read.
Donald Bray spoke about
the treasurer's report. He
stated that he would need $45
a day to keep the church
going this corning year.
Jack Hodgert of the
nominating committee
reported that the retiring
two members of the Board of
Stewards were Ross
Ballantyne and Mrs. William
Johns. The two new ones are
Don Richardson and Robert
Stone. The other four
members are Lorne
Ballantyne, Barry E. Miller,
Rick Parker and Jack
Hodgert.
The retiring elders are
Mrs. Donald Bray and Mrs.
Glenn Jeffery and Robert
Hume. The new elders are
Ross Ballantyne and Mrs.
Floyd Stewart for five year
terms and Win. Rohde for
four years finishing Robert
Hume's term. 1'tie other
elders are Mrs. Lorne
•Ballantyne, clerk of the
session, Murray Dawson and
Ted Kernick.
Messrs. Reg Hodgert and
Rick Parker were renamed
as examiners. Mrs. Edwin
Miller was renamed as M. &
S. Treasurer. Rev. Stan
McDonald of Hensall then
took charge of the meeting.
The congregation
requested that Pastor Ross
Hargreaves be appointed as
minister for the following
year.
Barry Jeffery chairman of
the History Committee for
the Centennial spoke a few
words about the History
Book.
Mrs, Glen Stewart is the
retiring lay delegate and
Mrs. Donald Bray was
elected as lay delegate and
William Rohde as alternate.
A vote of thanks was
moved to the Session, Board
of Stewards, Organist,
Custodian, Treasurers,
Program Printer, etc.
The Young People are
asked to meet at the church
on Sunday February 1st at
1:45 to go tobogganing.
The February meeting of
the United Church Women
will be held on Monday
February 2nd at 8 p.m.
