Stephen Optimists
Sunday afternoon was a
delightful experience for
those of us who attended the
variety show held in the hall.
Their talents, energy and
inventiveness did justice to
their sizes and pleased the
crowd.
Harold Borden has plans
for future shows of a larger
nature. He wants more
participation from the kids
and also more parents in
attendance. There is nothing
on TV that can match this
type of entertainment.
Bob Pinter and his family
spent the weekend in Huron
Park. Bob told me that the
reason for their visit was
that they read about our
functions in the Times -
Advocate. For Christmas he
received a subscription for
the T -A from Al Lavier. It's a
pleasure for me to know that
my column is read and
understood by a family all
the way from Tillsonburg.
J.T. is back in the park
working. Anyone who
worked at Hall Lamp will
remember John Turner.
John has accepted an ap-
pointment at Fleck Mfg. I'm
sure you will all join me in
wishing John well in his new
venture.
Saturday was another fun
filled day for our hockey fans
and players. The Zurich
minor hockey teams had a
tough time against our kids.
Even though their bantam
team defeated our boys 8-0,
they didn't have an easy
time of It. That's one for you
Gerry Kading.
The tables were turned
somewhat when the pee-
wees and midgets took to the
ice. Dennis Johnson scored a
hat trick while Tony Jones
and Paul Alien added singles
for our guys to defeat the
visitors 5-2. Assisting on the

ty show. The show was held Sunday in Huron Pork and was

as the pee-wees did a 5-2
trick on them. Goals by
Steve Lightfoot, Bill
Lessard, Steve McIntyre,
Dave Smith and Roger Ward
built up a 5-0 lead before the
visitors could get anything
past our outstanding goalie
Mark Morrissey. Robbie
Hoffman and Steven Consitt
finally put them in before the
game ended. Totals for the
day: Huron Park two games,
Zurich one.
Elma Logan atoms eked
out a 2-1 win ongoals by Todd
Yost and Kevin Quipp. In the
first two periods. At 5:07 of
the third Steve Dubarry
scored on a pass from Gary
Wilson to ruin the shutout.
Every Saturday is home
games day for our teams.
Get out and support your
local clubs.
I'm sure most of you have
at one time or another
watched the NHL games on
Saturday night. You will no
doubt have witnessed the
between period shows in
which the best players
compete against each other
in shooting and skating
competitions. Coming up on
G r e e n w a ladies March at tete Stephen
yTownship arena between the
hours of four and seven boys
plan o t l u e k e v e n t and girls aged 8 to 13 will
have the opportunity to test
their skills in the same type
of competition as the pros.
Art Wilkinson has lined up
a tri -star hockey program.
Skating shooting and stick
handling are the order of the
day. You don't have to be an
expert. All you have to do is
try. The schools in Stephen
Township will be notified
shortly as to how and when
you will be able to register.
