Tuesday night, they watched Mitchell score in the last minute to win 4-3, while at home, Friday, they scored with five seconds left to gain a 5-5 draw with Tavistock in one of the most exciting and well -played games at the rec centre this season. The single point picked up by Exeter moved them into third place in the northern division, but they have now played three more games than the fourth place Lucan Irish. The Hawks trail Tavistock by a single point and are four behind Mitchell. Mitchell moved back into top spot this week with a pair of wins and lead Tavistock by three points. Mitchell, Lucan and Tavistock have played 24 games, while the Exeter crew have been on the ice 27 times. The Hawks travel to Tavistock this Friday and to Lucan for a Sunday af- ternoon game in their only outings this week. Miss tie With Ron Bilcke serving a slashing penalty, Mitchell scored on a powerplay at- tempt at the 19:07 mark, Tuesday, to nip Exeter by a 4-3 daunt. Exeter had evened the score with two goals late in the third but couldn't hold on to get a point against the POOLEY REPORT The latest hockey report from Ohio State University has Paul Pooley third in the scoring standings. In 16 games, Paul has scored 11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 31 points and twin brother Perry has six goals and seven assists in the same number of games. Exeter jumped into a 1-0 lead in the first when Ed Willis blinked the light on a play with John Kernick. Mitchell knotted the count early in the second on a goal by Brad Fischer and Rick Ballantyne scored a pair in the first three minutes of the third to give the home team a 3-1 margin. Bryan Baker whittled the margin to one goal at the 12:41 mark on a play with Dave Atthill and Brian Mercer and then three minutes later Mercer gave them a 3-3 ,tie when he converted a pass !rpm Pete Tuckey. Fischer came back with his second goal of the night on the last minute powerplay Waxers are only minors to get win The Exeter Waxers were the only local minor team to post a victory this week, clipping Mitchell 2-0 in an exhibition contest, Sunday. It was a light week for the local minor squads, with bad weather cancelling several scheduled contests. The win by the local novice was revenge for an earlier lass to Mitchell in the Silver Stick tournament in Parkhill. Shannon Hrudka potted the first tally for Exeter on a play with Robbie McLelland in the early minutes of the third and McLelland notched an insurance marker late in the period on a play with Alan Blommaert. Harlen Tinney picked up the shutout. Saturday, the locals dropped a 6-2 verdict to St. Marys in Shamrock play. St. Marys took an early 2-0 lead and after Exeter evened the count, came back with four unanswered goals. Alan Blommaert and Robbie McLelland scored for Exeter. In last week's 3-1 win over Lucan, David Dalrymple had a pair and McLelland scored the single. Steve Snider scored for Lucan. Steve Anderson and B.J. Batten scored for the locals in St. Marys with Anderson, Steve Lingard and Doug Clark drawing assists. Exeter led with the two goals until the third when St. Marys came up with their four tallies, three by Owen Lessard.
