trict Deputy GrandlMaster, to succeed
Bro. 3. O. Stttnbury, who declined a
third term, resulted in the appoint-
ment of Bro. Jacob Taylor of Clinton
lodge. In the evening a very large
crowd filled the lodge room, visitors
in numbers being present front Clin
ton, Seaforth, Brucefleld and Hensall.
The special attraction was the lodge
of Instruction at which the beautiful
work of the 2nd and 3rd degrees was
exemplified. Exeter degree team
gave an exhibition of the teachings of
the 2nd degree in a manner which
called forth the heartiest praise while
Clinton degree team exemplified the
lessons of the :3rd degree. The chair
was occupied by Bro. Stanbury, D. D.
G. M. who was ably assisted by the
regular lodge officers. At the close an
informal banquet was tendered the
officers and visitors at:the Town Hall
when mine Host Bro. Statham catered
to about 1'25 Oddfellows in bis usual
capable manner.

The Hensall Local Option 1• ople
were delighted last week to get ttord
from their solicitor, .Mr. J. 0. t:ut�
bury, of Exeter, that Chief Justic0
Mulock had given bis decision in fav-
or of the by-law, which has beets so
long before the courts. The Judgo
not only dismisses the case brought
by Mr. Coxworth. but orders him to
pay -the costs, 1t will be remember
cd that when Mr. Cosworth first in-
structed his solicitors to apply to She
court to ;wash the local option by-
law, the village council undertook
the defence and the temperance peo-
ple had reason at the time to bo-
licvc that they would endeavor to
unhold it. -But as time went on it
was evident that their confidence
was misplaced.. Early last fall the
council passed a resolution which fav-
ored allowing the by-law to ba quasli
eel upon ;Mr. Coxworth paying the
costs. Upon learning of this the tem-
perance ,people hastily called a meet-
ing and empowered a committee to
engage counsel to checkmate this
move. Mr. Stanbury brought action
in :the nigh Court with the result
that the village council were d•i_t-
missed from: the defence of the by-
law and Mr. Samuel Smillie, its re-
presenting ;the temperance ncople
was permitt.:i to intervene. From
that time the defence was conduct.
ed earnestly and vigorously with the
result above referred to. lIad nog'

of copenbagen blue. The house was
beautifully decorated for the oc-
casion. Following the ceremony a
dainty 'wedding breakfast was serv-
ed, after which the happy couple
left for a brief wedding trip prior
to taking up their residence at Port
Latnbton, where the groom has been
appointed by the London conference.
The bride was the recipient of n
large number of costly and magnific-
ent presents. testifying to the high
ntsteem ill which she is held by a
wide circle, of friends. The bride
is on: of Thorold's most estimable
and accomplished young ladies. The
groom is one of the rising youn3
