People, plants and pride... growing together LAMBTON SHORES: National Class of champions Lynda Hillman-Rapley And the winner of five blooms and are the national winners of the Class of Champions cate- gory --Lampton Shores, On October 26th the 19th Edition of the Com- munities in Bloom (CiB) National & International Awards Ceremonies were held in Canada's Capital Region, Ottawa -Gatineau, honouring municipali- ties across Canada, the united States, Asia and Europe. CiB is a Canadian non-profit organization com- mitted to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through commu- nity involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on the enhancement of green spaces in communities. National Chair Bob Lewis - on behalf of the National Committee, Judges and Sponsors - sin- cerely thanked and congratulated all the commu- nities for their involvement in the program. "Within the context of climate change and envi- ronmental concerns, they can all be proud of their efforts, which provide real and meaningful envi- ronmental solutions that benefit all of society." Established with the guidance of Brit- ain in Bloom, '1idy'Ibwns of Ireland and Villes et Villages Fleuris de France, Communities in Bloom held its first edition in 1995 and 29 participating municipalities were honoured at the first awards ceremonies on Parliament 11111. The program now includes hun- dreds of communities across the coun- try, and an international challenge involving communities from the halted States, Japan and several European countries allows participants to tom pete internationally.
