Adopt -a -Computer during Library Week!
Lakeshore Advance
October is Canadian Library Month, Ontario Public
Library Week, and the official launch of the year-round
Adopt a Computer campaign by the Huron County
Library.
Ontario Public Library Week and Canadian Library
Month recognize the important contribution libraries
make to education, literacy and life-long learning. 'l'o con-
tinue this important service of connecting people to infor-
mation, the lluron County library would like to introduce
the Adopt a Computer program.
Libraries are a place where any person, regardless of
education or skill level, can have access to the Internet and
lut training by staff free of charge. In 2012, public library
computers in Huron County were used more than 34,000
times by people who needed them.
Companies and individuals can now adopt a computer
in the Library through the new Adopt a Computer pro-
gram. The adoption fee provides for the computer's
replacement parts and software. 'These computers will fea-
ture a name plaque as a thank -you to the donor(s).
This program ensures that computers will continue to be
available for public use in I luron County Library for years
to conte.

Vote for Aviva bridge funding
Lakeshore Advance
l.iunbton Shores Nature Trails (I.SN'I')
has been approved for Aviva Funding
voting has begun. This is for the replace-
ment of the Mud Creek Pedestrian
Bridge In Port Franks.
A current project of Lambton Shores
Nature Trail ((I.SNT) is a replacement
pedestrian bridge at Mud (;reek in fort
Franks. A few years ago the Nature
Conservancy of Canada (NCC) had the
10'wide wooden Mud Creek Footbridge
leading to their forested Dunes Nature
Reserve in Port Franks removed
because of safety concerns. 'The bridge
provided access from downtown fort
Franks to a popular trail on the Port
Franks Forested Dunes Nature Reserve
owned by the Nature Conservancy of
Canada (NCC). 'Thr NCC trail in turn is
connected to a trail at L -Lake that is
owned by the Ausahle Bayfield Conser-
vation Authority. This trail is
maintained by the volunteers of Lamb -
ton Shores Nature Trails (I.SNT).
A petition supported the fact that
Port Franks residents, cottagers and vis-
itors, as well as NCC have expressed a
desire to replace the bridge. The pro-
posed single -span structure would be
designed to service pedestrians only
and be approximately :3 to 4 ft. in width
(to prevent its use by ATV's etc.).
The Port Franks community is too
driver/car dependent but with more
pedestrian and cycle -friendly connec-
tions throughout it would enhance and
protect the inlets and creek's ecosys-
tems through education and mainte-
nance. Port Franks would be an ideal
location to bring school children
throughout Lambton Shores for envi-
ronmental education and field walks.
The site involves a natural area that is
both a Provincially Significant Wetland

Just this past August, (;amp Klahanie,
on Black's Point Road between Bayfield
and Godcrich, was purchased from Girl
Guides of Canada by the Godcrich
Lions Club and the camp will soon be
available for children and youth groups
across the county and beyond to use.
One of the goals of the Catnp Kla-
hanie Board of Directors and Lions
members is to provide better facilities
for co-ed camping opportunities. A sec-
ond building with washrooms is
needed to realize this goal. Winning
upwards of $50,000 through the AVIVA
Fund would be a great help.
The Aviva Community Fund is,
according to theirwebsite, "an annual
competition that is changing Canadian
communities by bringing great ideas to
life. The most popular ideas, as deter-
mined by passionate Canadians like
you, will have a chance to win a share
of the $1,000,000 Aviva Community
Fund."
'the competition has three qualifying
rounds. First round voting began on
Sept. 30 and will continue until Oct. 14.
People are encouraged to vote for the
idea known as "Godcrich Lions Club -
Camp Klahanie Revitalization" every-
day to help the project move on. All that
is required to vote is an email address.
People with Facebook can vote directly
from there as well. 1 lere is the link to
the camp idea: http://mvw.avivacom-

Anyone on Facebook who would like
helpful voting reminders is invited to
join the group known as "Goderich

Interest (ANSI). A Nature Education
Outreach could go well beyond Lamb -
ton Shores to put Port Franks on the
map as a 'Gem of Nature:
Trails in Lambton Shores are being
developed and maintained for use by
all age groups. I.SNT intends to make
at least it part of each nature trail acces-
sible to those with disabilities. }liking
the nature trails in this area will benefit
low income residents as it is a no cost
activity. It will get children and seniors
out for activity and to (earn about and
appreciate nature in this area. We
intend to have a connected, well-main-
tained trail system that will attract tour-
ists who will in turn spend money in the
area to help the local economy.
