Entrepreneur Tweaks her funky jewelry
It started as a study break, something Caroline Bruce would do
when she needed to clear her mind while cramming for exams
as an undergraduate student in lbronto.
She and her girlfriends would take trips to the bead store
near campus and spend hours creating beautiful and funky
pieces of Jewelry.
Eight years later the hobby that kept her sane during exams

has transformed into a full-
fledged business venture. And
this year Tweaks came to
Grand Bend.
The Parkhill native has been
successfully selling her hand-
crafted creations in her online
boutique, Tweak, for more
than two years.
"The nature of my stuff is so
eclectic; she said. "You have to
keep coming up with new
Ideas. It's my creativity I hope
will keep me going, so I don't
have to be married to one
design."
With 12 to 15 lines of punchy
accessories for sale at any given
time on her website www.
tweakboutiqueonline.net,
Bruce designs everything from
bold punchy rings and brace-
lets, to tropical necklaces made
from hand -dipped orchids, to
cozy knit scarves with beaded
necklaces interwoven into the
fabric. Her pieces range in
price from $25 to $290 depend-
ing on the design and materi-
als used.
Each piece is unique and
made by Bruce herself, many
of it inspired from the time
Bruce spent working in
Jamaica.
In 2006, Bruce packed her
life into a couple of suitcases
and moved to the island to
work as an interior decorator
for Sandals Resorts. Her beads
went with her, and it was In
Jamaica that Bruce decided to
follow her passion and create
Tweak
The name dawned on her
talking with a friend.
"We were like what does it
mean to put accessories to
change up your outfit? You're
tweaking your outfit, and I was
like yes," Bruce said.
When Bruce moved back to
Canada she began selling her
beaded creations at craft shows
before creating her online
store. Her big break came in
2010, when she sent samples of
jewelry to a fashion blogger.
"It went wild she said.
Some of Bruce's lines are
stocked in shops around the
world, including in Hawaii and
Chicago, an area Bruce hopes
to expand into more in the
future.
But, selling her accessories
online means Bruce has a wide
and growing customer base.
She's sent products as far as
Singapore, Australia, the
United Kingdom and Ger-
many, but it's the Tweak cus-
tomers close to her home base
in Parkhill that Bruce finds
really encouraging.
"Any given Sunday there'll
be four or five people wearing
my jewelry at church," she said.
"They're very supportive."
