Lakeshore Advance, 2013-07-10, Page 88 Lakeshore Advance • Wednesday, July 10, 2013 Busy long weekend for Lambton OPP OPP Briefs Lambton County Ontario Pro- vincial Police (OPP) officers were kept busy over the Canada Day long weekend generating approximately 370 calls for service around the county from noon on June 28, 2013 to this morning, July 2, 2013. 121 of those incidents were in the Grand Bend area. Total charges laid in Grand Bend this weekend were around 126. This number is up from the 98 charges Jaid in 2012. 'Ihere were 88 charges laid under the Liquor Licence Act this year compared to 70 charges laid in 2012. IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AT R.I.D.E. CHECKPOINT On July 1, 2013 at around 12:45 a.m., i.ambton County Ontario Pro- vincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a Reduce impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check- point on West Parkway Drive. A Dodge vehicle entered the check- point and while speaking with the driver, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. Subsequent tests indi- cated that 56 year old Donald ROSSO from London was over the legal limit. lie will appear in a Sar- nia court on July 29, 2013 to answer to the charge of Being Over the Legal Limit and Driving a Motor Vehicle With Open Alcohol. RESIST ARREST Members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to Main Street in Grand Bend shortly after 4:00 p.m. on July 1, 2013 to a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. tipon their arrival officers located the individual and attempted to affect an arrest. Dur- ing his arrest he became combative with the officers and attempted to flee from custody. While doing so, the male party fell face first into the ground injuring his mouth. NEAR MISS FOR OPP A 1.ambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer took evasive action onto the shoulder of southbound Lake- shore Road near Cold Storage Road to avoid a head-on collision with a Pontiac vehicle. Just before 10:00 a.m. on June 29, 2013 the OPP officer noticed a northbound vehicle cross over into the southbound lane of Lakeshore Road being occupied by the OPP vehicle. The OPP officer alleges that the young driver had a hand- held device in his hands while driving. After getting the Pontiac stopped, tit,.
