Busy long weekend for Lambton OPP
OPP Briefs
Lambton County Ontario Pro-
vincial Police (OPP) officers were
kept busy over the Canada Day long
weekend generating approximately
370 calls for service around the
county from noon on June 28, 2013
to this morning, July 2, 2013. 121 of
those incidents were in the Grand
Bend area.
Total charges laid in Grand Bend
this weekend were around 126. This
number is up from the 98 charges
Jaid in 2012. 'Ihere were 88 charges
laid under the Liquor Licence Act
this year compared to 70 charges
laid in 2012.
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AT
R.I.D.E. CHECKPOINT
On July 1, 2013 at around 12:45
a.m., i.ambton County Ontario Pro-
vincial Police (OPP) officers were
conducting a Reduce impaired
Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check-
point on West Parkway Drive. A
Dodge vehicle entered the check-
point and while speaking with the
driver, it was determined that he
had been consuming alcoholic
beverages. Subsequent tests indi-
cated that 56 year old Donald
ROSSO from London was over the
legal limit. lie will appear in a Sar-
nia court on July 29, 2013 to answer
to the charge of Being Over the
Legal Limit and Driving a Motor
Vehicle With Open Alcohol.

responded to Main Street in Grand
Bend shortly after 4:00 p.m. on July
1, 2013 to a report of an intoxicated
male causing a disturbance.

located the individual and
attempted to affect an arrest. Dur-
ing his arrest he became combative
with the officers and attempted to
flee from custody. While doing so,
the male party fell face first into the
ground injuring his mouth.
He was arrested and taken to a
local hospital where he was treated
for non -life threatening injuries.

an assault that took place on Main
Street in the area of Elmwood Ave-
nue at around 3:(X) a.m. on June 30,
2013.
A 26 year old male remains in
hospital with what are described as
non -life threatening injuries after
he was involved in an altercation at
that location.

NEAR MISS FOR OPP
A 1.ambton County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officer took evasive action
onto the shoulder of southbound Lake-
shore Road near Cold Storage Road to
avoid a head-on collision with a Pontiac
vehicle.
Just before 10:00 a.m. on June 29, 2013
the OPP officer noticed a northbound
vehicle cross over into the southbound
lane of Lakeshore Road being occupied
by the OPP vehicle. The OPP officer
alleges that the young driver had a hand-
held device in his hands while driving.
After getting the Pontiac stopped, tit,.
()PP investigation lead to the arrest c J.
17 year old male driver from 1 Iensall, OIv
and subsequent breath tests.
The youth, who cannot be named
under the Youth Criminal Justice Act,
faces the following charges:
Being over the legal limit Person under
19 years consume liquor Novice driver
blood alcohol concentration above zero.
Drive motor vehicle on a highway while
using hand-held communication device.
Fail to drive in marked lane
'There were no injuries during the inci-
dent and the youth will appear in a Sar-
nia court on August 1, 2013.

Zurich robbery

Police (OPi') officers and the Iltu'on
County OPP (:rime unit are currently
investigating a robbery that occurred this
evening at the Zurich Variety & Bakery
located at 57 Main Street. Officers
responded to the variety store at approxi-
mately R:0() p.m. after receiving a 9 • I -I
call for assistance.
Police have learned a lone male
entered the store and demanded monr
from the cashier. The robber took a
undisclosed) amount of cash before flee-
ing the store to lir) unknown directin.
No weapons were observed.
The area was searched by the O11'
Emergency Response 'ream (ERT) and
an OPP Canine unit; the suspect was not
located.
-Ihe suspect is described as:
■ A Caucasian male, 5' 10" to 6' tall with
a thin build

dex balaclava, a black hoody sweat
shirt, and black jogging pants.
