David Campbell and Chair Tom Prout check out some of the community visions. Jacquie
Southcott writes her vision on one of the boards at Saturday's meeting. One of the blank
slates from the Grand Bend Art Centre. You will see much more of these "I wish.."chalk
boards this summer.
be a school and programs, safe streets
and the enviable environment we are
offered today. Lessard spoke about the
art centres program that mirrors that of
Candy Chang of New Orleans. In her
video, shown at the AGM focused on
Chang's blackboard campaign.
In the case of the Grand Bend art cen-
tre, Lessard has presented the blank
slate, so to speak, which is a small chalk
board for people to tell the world- or at
least this community what they wish
for- to dance, to sing, to save the planet-
-the boards are an expression of crea-
tivity, desire and something free where
people can grab a piece of chalk and
right their most desired wish. This, Les-
sard says will target young and old.
Maxfield said her vision is to promote
health and wellness with a physical and
emotional focus. She has lived in this
area since she was two and has a pas-
sion for her job at the Community
ilealth Centre and for the people it
serves. Swartz, who is a Friend of the
Pinery, said she feels lucky to be able to
live here and says her vision is to keep
the beauty of this area, to respect the
environment and to sustain, protect
and enjoy what we have and to grow
but still keep the small town
atmosphere.
This reporter said "My vision for
Grand Bend and area is growth, which
requires good infrastructure and serv-
ices. We want to encourage our young
people the opportunity to want to come
hack and our elderly to be able to
stay. 'the choices we make today affect
our life tomorrow- our vision today
should have a lasting impact 00 our
lives far into the future"
Campbell said this needs to be a "we
community" nota "rte commu-
nity." Thompson, who resigned from
the board after being a member for the
allotted six years talked about her and
her husband moving to the Bend with
two small children and becoming not
only involved with the school but work-
ing with the community and the late
Paul De Sadeleer (then chair of the
Board) to save the school during a time
of threat of closure. She is very proud of
her committees' success of partnering
with the municipality and county to
bring a public gym and library to save
this much needed asset. This past
month three new portables have bei
added to the structure due to growtr
She said this is a shining example of "1
think 1 can..." attitude of so many peo-
ple who make things happen.
Chair 'Porn Prout talked about how
this Foundation communicates with
the public with newsletters, an up to
date web site, Facebook, Twitter, sur-
veys and annual audits and reports.
John Fraser on behalf of MPP Monte
McNaughton's office congratulated the
Foundation for the r time and energy to
level of commitment to Grand Bend
and MP Bev Shipley said when families
and businesses are successful it makes
for a great foundation. "'Phis is a com-
munity of envy across the region," he
said. Mayor Bill Weber was not in
attendance as he is out of the province
and no other Lambton Shores member
was available to attend.
