matter to outdoor chefs
NewsCanada
(NC)—The 24th annual Weber
Canadian GrillWatch Survey found
tat one-fifth of respondents own
4 oo or more grills. Over 65% of
lutdoor chefs prefer black, stainless
steel, or a combination of the two for
their grill colour of choice. Thirty-
eight percent of those surveyed said
the side burner is important to have
and a feature they use often. Just over
one-quarter use a rotisserie when
grilling and last year, the Weber grill
became the number one purchase
choice.
While only (5%) of Canadians own
smokers, the interest in this type of
outdoor cooking is quite high with
30% of respondents admitting they'd
like to learn more about this low and
slow cooking method. Smokers are
more likely to be owned by Ontarians
and outdoor chefs in Western Canada
and their use has increased over last
year. Seventeen
percent report using the smoker
once a week or more, up from 4% in
2011.
The ubiquitous charcoal grill is still
a favourite of 13% of survey respond-
ents; however, 43% feel this is the
most challenging of all outdoor
cooking methods.

found online at www.weber.com.

Plant the right tree in the right place
NewCanada
(NC)—In celebration of
Arbour Week, here are five
tips from Hydro One for
planting a tree in the right
place to stay safe and save
energy.
1. Plant tall -growing trees
at least eight metres away
from power lines. Tree con-
tact with power lines
accounts for about 30 per
\.," cent of power outages in
Ontario.
2. Deciduous (leaf -shed-
ding) trees provide shade
from the summer sun to cut
down on heat gain, but lose
their leaves in winter to let
sunlight enter your home
and maximize solar warmth
and light. Place them to the
south and the southwest to
provide shade from late
afternoon/evening sun.
3. A good windbreak
includes a mix-
ture of conif-
erous trees,
decidu-
ous
shrubs,
evergreen
shrubs and
perennial
plants. The right
combination
planted tightly
together can thor-
oughly shield
your home from
cold winter gusts. Even a
single row of white pine
trees can reduce the speed
of wind hitting your home
by 60 per cent
at least 60 centimeters away
from your foundation
walls.
5. Call before you dig to
locate underground lines.
4. Low -growing ever- Call Ontario One Call to
