Plan your spring planting
around Communities in Bloom
In the Pink
Pink - it's the color of joy, child-
hood, femininity, and romance. And
this year it's the colour chosen by the
Communities In Bloom committee
as the theme for 2013 plantings.
Communities in Bloom is a Cana-
dian non-profit organization com-
mitted to fostering civic pride, envi-
ronmental responsibility and
beautification through community
involvement and the challenge of a
national program, with focus 00
enhancing green spaces in commu-
nities. Each participating community
is evaluated over a two-day period by
a team of two judges. In 2012, Lamb -
ton Shores won at the national level
for communities of 10,001 to 20,000
inhabitants - an great achievement
that says a lot about community
spirit in the municipality.
"Communities in 810001 is not all
about flowers, as many people think,"
says co-chair Grace Dekker. "In addi-
tion to floral displays, communities
are judged on tidiness, environmen-
tal action, heritage conservation,
urban forestry, landscape, turf and
groundcovers, and community
involvement. But flowers are a fun
part of it!"
Every year, each community
chooses theme colours and encour-
ages gardeners to keep them in mind
while doing their spring planting.
'this year, Lambton Shores will blos-
som with all the wonderful shades of
pink. Among the flowers suggested
for local gardeners:

It's the largest heritage restora-
tion project undertaken by the
community of 11ensal1 in quite
some time. The Upper Room of the
old Hensall 'Town Hall was re-
opened to the public last Sunday -
but just for a few hours. In the
1970's engineers discovered the
floor of the vintage structure was
sagging and unsafe. So it has been
closed to the public ever since. In
2001 the Hensall Kinsmen helped
to renovate the building and
restore the floor. On Sunday the
public learned that the next chap-
ter of this "historic people place"
is soon to be written. Next year is
the 100tH Anniversary of the Town
Hall and the old girl is getting a
makeover. Many residents who
came to Sunday's Open House
were amazed that the Hall was in
such good shape. Comments from
residents at the 'sneak peek' event
included; "I'm thrilled that once
again this beautiful Hall will be
restored to what it was first
intended to be." Wayne Reid, Chair
of the Hensall Town Hall tipper
Room Committee said, "I hope a
new generation of people who live
in Bluewater will conte explore the
!fall and learn about the history of
our community." For more infor-

"Whether you prefer the romance
of palest pink or the high impact of
hot pink, or all the wonderful shades
in between, this will be a great year
for floral displays," says co -Chair
Catherine MInielly. "We look forward
to admiring the results when the
judges visit us in late July."
