Women representing Lambton
County's 11 municipalities have
been chosen from among over 75
nominations in the Lambton 1 lerit-
age Museum's Shine: Spotlight on
Women of Lambton exhibit. The
winners will be featured as 'Guiding
Beacons' in the exhibit, on from
May 12 to November 8, 2013.
In January, the Lambton I leritage
Museum invited the community to
help honour the women of Lambton
County (living or deceased) for the
roles they play in their local commu-
nities as well as provincially, nation-
ally and internationally, by nominat-
ing them as a 'Guiding Beacon: From
this list, one woman fn)nl each munic-
ipality in the County was chosen to be
highlighted as part of the exhibit.
The 11 representatives come from a
variety of backgrounds and have
demonstrated strong local leadership,
overcome adversity in their lives, been
excellent role models, are well
respected in their communities, or
consistently gave of their own time
and resources to serve others or a
cause.
The 'Guiding Beacons' selected

ton-Wyoming

selected to represent their mnicipali-
ties will also be recognized in the
exhibit. The names of all nominated
women and a summary of the nomi-
nation that was received will he
included on a touchscreen computer
in the display.
Shine: Spotlight on Women of
L ambton embraces the lives and
times of the everyday women who
have contributed to the social fabric
of Lambton County communities. It
explores how the roles of women have
changed over time and includes
details about the changing role of
women in the military, women's

rights, women's crafts and fashion.
The significant impacts of women's
groups on their communities will also
be highlighted. A special section on
women in business includes a com-
parison of three business women
through time, including a pharmacist
from the 1870s, a hat shop owner
from the 1930s and a bed and break-
fast/herb farm operator from the
2000s. Another area where women
have made a large impact is in educa-
tion, where they have been not only
teachers, but have also taken on other,
less formal roles as educators.
Women involved in caring for their
families and physically caring for
other people, as well as women who
guard and pass on family knowledge
will all be outlined.
