So, for his recent birthday he decided instead of presents he wool(' ask for donations for a good cause. Colton's mons Elaine and dad Richard said before sending out party invites they would check around to see if there was a charity they could con- tribute to. She asked her friends Allison and Randy Shaw and was told there were kids who wanted to play hockey but could not afford the registration. Randy, who works for Lambton Shores is a volun- teer with the league. So, it was decided and the invites went out stating, "We are a truly blessed family, in lieu of gifts, we will be collecting dona- tions that will be donated to The Legacy Youth l Jockey League in Colton's name as part of his birthday celebration. " Elaine explains that the Legacy Youth Hockey league is an in-house hockey league at the Legacy Center in 'Medford. It was started by Randy Shaw and provides an afford- able hockey league that all can enjoy. 'Ihe party -hot wheel themed was held at the fort Franks Community Centre and Don Brooks owner of Pit Stop Chal- lenge helped them out with their event, which Elaine said was everything 25 young kids would love. "llotwheels, boys and a giant tire," she said laughing as she recalled the chaos of the party. Instead of gifts, the children brought money, to the tune of $270.00. Because Colton is so young they decided to buy two hockey sticks so he could actually see something "real" from the money. This five year old began skating in Can Skate this year and will play hockey in the league next. He told the Lake- shore Advance he is proud that he gave to some kids "who want to play hockey but can't afford 11:' Saturday was the last day for the Le acy league and they ended with wrap-up party and that is where Colton presented Shaw with the check.
