Blyth Festival singers exploring new ground
Lakeshore Advance
The Blyth Festival Singers are explor-
ing new ground in their next concert,
the "Music of the Americas:' They will
be introducing their audience to classi-
cal, traditional and contemporary
pieces of music from countries of the
Western Hemisphere, with help from
their special guest, the Huron Harp
School.
Expect some amazing surprises as we
present an eclectic.mix including soul-
ful numbers from Jamaica, contempo-
rary pieces like "I Dreamed of Rain"
and the "Seal Lullaby" from North
America, songs with a lively beat from
Guatemala and other Central American
countries, a smattering of Stephen Fos-
, and more! What characterizes most
e choir's pieces is its lively yet uni-
v rsal appeal. And that is fust the
beginning!
After her recent travels to teach at a
cultural centre in El Salvador, Sharon
Johnson, together with the 1 luron 1larp
School are sure to have some 'surprises
in store for you, as they tantalize your
musical taste buds with a whole new
style of latin harp music. Add some
percussion and the acoustic space of
Clinton united Church, and it will be an
altogether lively and interesting
concert!
Founded in 2006, 1 luron Harp School
has over a dozen members of all ages
and abilities who join together in a cas-
ual setting to create a magical sound.
Iluron Harp School members can be
found performing at weddings,
churches, special events, and often on
summer evenings "harping down the
sun" at a local restaurant.'Iheir two (:I)s
are "1learts, I lands and limps" (2007)
and "Hearts, Hands and Harps at
Christmas" (2009).
"Music of the Americas" will be
performed in Clinton United Church on Sunday, April 7,
2013, at 2:30 pm. Tickets, at $15 for adults and $6 for children
are available at Blyth Centre for the Arts 523-9300, at Finch-
ers, Goderich, The Brussels Citizen, The Dutch Store, Clinton,
from any Blyth Festival Singer, or maybe even at the door.
The Blyth Festival Singers, averaging 40-50 members, form
a county -wide, community choir under the professional
direction of Robert Blackwell, and accompanied by Laura
McAlpine. lhe Singers perform primarily in i luron County
and endeavour to present a high standard of choral singing.
They are certainly looking forward to their Annual Dinner
and Cabaret on June 1 in the Varna Complex. This "Canadian
Connections" cabaret, featuring Blyth 'theatre alumnus David
Archibald, will definitely be a rollicking good time! Be sure to
mark your calendars!
The Blyth Festival Singers are pleased to be supported in
