Blyth Festival singers exploring new ground Lakeshore Advance The Blyth Festival Singers are explor- ing new ground in their next concert, the "Music of the Americas:' They will be introducing their audience to classi- cal, traditional and contemporary pieces of music from countries of the Western Hemisphere, with help from their special guest, the Huron Harp School. Expect some amazing surprises as we present an eclectic.mix including soul- ful numbers from Jamaica, contempo- rary pieces like "I Dreamed of Rain" and the "Seal Lullaby" from North America, songs with a lively beat from Guatemala and other Central American countries, a smattering of Stephen Fos- , and more! What characterizes most e choir's pieces is its lively yet uni- v rsal appeal. And that is fust the beginning! After her recent travels to teach at a cultural centre in El Salvador, Sharon Johnson, together with the 1 luron 1larp School are sure to have some 'surprises in store for you, as they tantalize your musical taste buds with a whole new style of latin harp music. Add some percussion and the acoustic space of Clinton united Church, and it will be an altogether lively and interesting concert! Founded in 2006, 1 luron Harp School has over a dozen members of all ages and abilities who join together in a cas- ual setting to create a magical sound. Iluron Harp School members can be found performing at weddings, churches, special events, and often on summer evenings "harping down the sun" at a local restaurant.'Iheir two (:I)s are "1learts, I lands and limps" (2007) and "Hearts, Hands and Harps at Christmas" (2009). "Music of the Americas" will be performed in Clinton United Church on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2:30 pm. Tickets, at $15 for adults and $6 for children are available at Blyth Centre for the Arts 523-9300, at Finch- ers, Goderich, The Brussels Citizen, The Dutch Store, Clinton, from any Blyth Festival Singer, or maybe even at the door. The Blyth Festival Singers, averaging 40-50 members, form a county -wide, community choir under the professional direction of Robert Blackwell, and accompanied by Laura McAlpine. lhe Singers perform primarily in i luron County and endeavour to present a high standard of choral singing. They are certainly looking forward to their Annual Dinner and Cabaret on June 1 in the Varna Complex. This "Canadian Connections" cabaret, featuring Blyth 'theatre alumnus David Archibald, will definitely be a rollicking good time! Be sure to mark your calendars!
