vincial Police (OPP) is once again
warning computer users of an on-
going computer scam that continues
to circulate in our County.
The latest report was made to OPP
on January 14. The victim received a
telephone call from an individual
claiming to tvork for Microsoft. Oddly
enough, the victim had been experi-
encing performance issues with the
computer and atter a brief conversa-
tion with the caller, the victim paid the
fee and allowed the caller to take con -
of the computer remotely. The
ins because suspicious when the
caller continued to download various
programs even after the phone con-
versation had ended.
'The victim eventually disconnected
the computer and notified the finan-
cial institutions and credit card com-
panies. No money was lost in this
instance.

remotely take control of your compu-
ter is extremely dangerous if you have
table agency. Sensitive data including
online banking information, bank
accounts, credit card information,
user names and passwords can easily
be copied from your computer with-
out your knowledge. Please be
extremely cautious when you receive
unsolicited offers of assistance for
