Teaching people how to use their Apple products
New business in the Henn

After working for Apple at the Masonville store
lan McLean was amazed at how many people in
general have Apple products and need some help
to use them properly.
"it was an area that 1 loved to help people with. 1
also noticed how many bines 1 ran into people
from Grand Bend, Parkhill, Exeter, Lucan, Hayfield
and Goderich. I realized that it was quite a hike
for people from here to drive into the city and so, l
thought that it might be a great service to have
locally so that people could learn about their
Apple products without driving all the way into
London;" said....adding he also noted that while
Apple provides a lot of great services in their stores,
it's not always easy for someone to get one to one
instruction on how to use an iPad or an iPhone or
even a Mac depending 00 appointment availabil-
ity at an Apple Store. "It's also great for my wife
and 1 because we live locally now in St. Joseph and
we absolutely adore the area"
Our store will have a good
selection of Apple equipment
on -hand for people to try out and
I can provide a great deal of
information about what type of
Apple product would work for
them in whatever capacity they
have in mind."
— Jan McLean, owner Mac leacher store
Mclean will open the Mac Teacher store in Feb-
ruary, but word of mouth has some keen future
customers already. The store is located in the
Ji)ees plaza on Queen S'.reet, (rand Bend.
"I had a 25 -year career with the Canadian Air
Force and during that time, we used PC's exclu-
sively. In fact, 1 used to program P(:s and have
sold programs in other.
I was flying on the Snowbird team and a few of
the guys on the team had Mac laptops at the
time. 'That piqued my interest in Mac and so when
I left the Snowbirds, 1 tried my first Mac and loved
it. 1 also discovered that while having an Apple
computer is great, the more of the system and
devices that you end up owning, the better it works
together. I ended up learning so much about
Apple equipment and how it works that 1 decided
to apply for a job when they opened an Apple
Store in London last year. They hired me to be a
manager for the store opening and through the
course of 6 months working for Apple, 1 realized
that my knowledge level was high enough that l
could strike out on my own and help people in the
area with their Apple devices,"
Why Apple?
Mclean said this business has a focus on teach-
ing how to use all the products, both its stand
alone equipment but also as a part of the Apple
ecosystem using i(:loud, i'l' utes and Apple i1)s. Ile
was amazed to discover while he was working for
Apple how many people have questions about
how to use their Apple devices and 1 also observed
that there are relatively few resources out there
helping people with the products. Apple Stores
are great places to buy products and to get them
fixed but they are a hit limited on assistance for
learning the basic skills needed to use the
devices. 1 plan on doing a lot of what 1 did infor-
mally as an Apple employee and that was provid-
ing peoples assistance with their specific questions
about using their devices.
While they don't intend 011 selling the product
in the stores, McLean's background with Apple
sales and service allows him to confidently help
people to make a choice about Apple prod-
ucts. "Our store will have a good selection of Apple
equipment on -hand for people to by out and 1 can
provide a great deal of information about what
type of Apple product would work for them in
whatever capacity they have In mind"
McLean maintains an excellent working rela-
tionship with all staff and management at the
Apple Store at Masonville and can direct people to
the most appropriate resource to assist them with
any Apple issue. McLean expects to draw from a
wide area - ((;rand Bend, Parkhill, Exeter, Zurich,
St. Joseph, Bayfield, Clinton and Goderich) and we
fully expect that a lot of people from these areas
will view our services as an opportunity to learn
about Apples products and services without having
to trek all the way to London or Waterloo.
Mclean is 0 retired Air Force pilot who spent 25
years flying 1: 1118 and Snowbirds. I retired from the
Air Force in 2007 as the Commander of the Snow •
bids, Canada's National Aerohatic'l'eam to accept
the role of President of Cardinal Couriers in Mis-
sissauga until the Call of '201 1 when my wife and 1
decided to move to St. Joseph. "I supposes I could
fly for an airline, as many of my friends do, but
computers have always been an avid hobby of

mine and more specifically, Apple com-

years now. 1 love working with technol-
ogy and have found that other than fly-
ing, working with technology makes the
day pass very quickly for Ole. 1 never
seem to get bored when I'm working
with technology devices.'
