Lakeshore Advance, 2013-01-02, Page 7Month of events for Queensway
Lynda Hillman-Rapley
Queensway Residents have enjoyed a won-
derful month of events and still have the
monthly Birthday Party December 27th with
Martin Gelinas' group and December 31st with
Doug Deschs•' Band to look forward to.
On December Ath and 6th Residents trav-
elled the streets of 11ensall and Exeter via
Easyride Mobility Bus to see the many beauti-
ful Christmas lights & decorations that people
have on display. Everyone was thankful to have
good weather for the evening.
The Resident's Council Muffin fundraiser
as a success December 13th with Baking
group offering up Banana/Walnut & Cran-
berry/Orange muffins fresh from the oven with
piping hot coffee or tea. The Cafe becomes a
beehive of activity and visiting the second
Thursday of each month as residents welcome
community seniors, staff, fellow residents and
visitors from J to 11 a.m.
Friday 1)eceinht'r 14th, as a special treat vol-
unteer, Marlette Bilcke brought in her cookie
press and treated the residents to her special
lacey Dutch cookies, a crispy sweet treat.
Clergy leading worship Services at Queens-
way in December were Pastor John Baker of
Exeter Pentecostal, Pastor Cathy Prout of Faith
Tabernacle and Pastor Elly 1)ow. Pastor Ealy
served as Queensway's Pastoral Care Volun-
teer for a number of years and residents were
pleased to have her lead their Communion
Service on December 18th.
Baking Group was busy early in December
creating some delicious Christmas Baking for

the special events. Mouth watering short -
breads, eatinore squares and more are served
courtesy of Baking group along with their
favourite eggnog and punch.
Musicians Gail Mason & Pearl Ann Martin
provided an uplifting afternoon on December
20th with the Christmas Story, sacred Christ-
mas Carols and other Christmas Music. Every-
one appreciates these wonderful women who
took time at this most busy time of year to
share their gifts of singing and music with the
Residents. 1t was also great to have so many
family members and friends john us.
Pastoral Volunteer Dianne Loerchner vis-
ited during the week to provide support &
comfort to those who may struggle during this
season that for most is so joyful. For those
missing a loved one or with health issues that
prevent thein going out with family for Christ-
mas celebrations, it can be a difficult & sad
time so we are thankful for Dianne's presence.
Matra Simpson, volunteer support for the
iPad program spent time with residents this
month teaching them the various games raid
applications available on the iPads. One resi-
dent has already Skyped with a loved one on
the East coast and once the program is estab-
lished we hope this type of communication
will be utilized by more Residents and their
loved ones at a distance.
Along with special programs Residents con-
tinue to benefit front Massage 'therapy, Music
Therapy, exercises, games, manicures, sensory
programs, Bingo and more. Best Wishes to all
for a happy, healthy and safe Christmas!
