Lakeshore Advance, 2013-01-02, Page 7Month of events for Queensway Lynda Hillman-Rapley Queensway Residents have enjoyed a won- derful month of events and still have the monthly Birthday Party December 27th with Martin Gelinas' group and December 31st with Doug Deschs•' Band to look forward to. On December Ath and 6th Residents trav- elled the streets of 11ensall and Exeter via Easyride Mobility Bus to see the many beauti- ful Christmas lights & decorations that people have on display. Everyone was thankful to have good weather for the evening. The Resident's Council Muffin fundraiser as a success December 13th with Baking group offering up Banana/Walnut & Cran- berry/Orange muffins fresh from the oven with piping hot coffee or tea. The Cafe becomes a beehive of activity and visiting the second Thursday of each month as residents welcome community seniors, staff, fellow residents and visitors from J to 11 a.m. Friday 1)eceinht'r 14th, as a special treat vol- unteer, Marlette Bilcke brought in her cookie press and treated the residents to her special lacey Dutch cookies, a crispy sweet treat. Clergy leading worship Services at Queens- way in December were Pastor John Baker of Exeter Pentecostal, Pastor Cathy Prout of Faith Tabernacle and Pastor Elly 1)ow. Pastor Ealy served as Queensway's Pastoral Care Volun- teer for a number of years and residents were pleased to have her lead their Communion Service on December 18th. Baking Group was busy early in December creating some delicious Christmas Baking for Wednesday, January 2, 2013 • Lakeshore Advance 7 the special events. Mouth watering short - breads, eatinore squares and more are served courtesy of Baking group along with their favourite eggnog and punch. Musicians Gail Mason & Pearl Ann Martin provided an uplifting afternoon on December 20th with the Christmas Story, sacred Christ- mas Carols and other Christmas Music. Every- one appreciates these wonderful women who took time at this most busy time of year to share their gifts of singing and music with the Residents. 1t was also great to have so many family members and friends john us. Pastoral Volunteer Dianne Loerchner vis- ited during the week to provide support & comfort to those who may struggle during this season that for most is so joyful. For those missing a loved one or with health issues that prevent thein going out with family for Christ- mas celebrations, it can be a difficult & sad time so we are thankful for Dianne's presence. Matra Simpson, volunteer support for the iPad program spent time with residents this month teaching them the various games raid applications available on the iPads. One resi- dent has already Skyped with a loved one on the East coast and once the program is estab- lished we hope this type of communication will be utilized by more Residents and their loved ones at a distance. Along with special programs Residents con- tinue to benefit front Massage 'therapy, Music Therapy, exercises, games, manicures, sensory programs, Bingo and more.
