Lakeshore Advance, 2012-11-21, Page 146 Lakeshore Advance • Wednesday, December 14, 2011 Fundraisers at St. Anne's This week at St. Anne's was filled with fundraisers welcoming the holiday season to the school. Our Advent projects and coat drive will continue until December 19th. Eagor the Eagle travelled to class- rooms around the school this week to meet the students and learn more about which project each classroom chose to take on, in keeping with the Advent theme. Many classes have chosen to col- lect toys and food for families around Huron County or winter clothing for fami- lies in Northern Ontario. On Monday, December 5th, the girls' hockey teatn played in Stratford, and the curling and swimming teams practiced in Vanastra. On Wednesday the 7th, the sen- ior boys' basketball team played at South Huron and the boys' hockey team had a game at FE Madill. On Thursday, the girls' hockey team had a game in Clinton, and Ms. Finlayson's class departed to the Vanastra pool. On Tuesday, December 6th, the front lobby was filled with beautiful displays created by Semester One Co-op students, informing peers on what they do on a day to day basis,,and to encourage other stu- dents to choose co-op as an option In their upper years of high school to gain workplace knowledge and experience. Also on Tuesday was the Christmas Celebration of the Arts, where drama, music, and visual arts students had a chance to show off their talents. The evening offered musical performances by both the concert band and the rock band at St. Anne's, as well as short plays written and performed by drama students, and a visual art display and handmade card sole. Thursday, December 8th brought stu- dents the opportunity to participate in Advent Reconciliation, where sins could be forgiven, or students could simply choose to talk to one of the priests about something in their lives. Also on Thursday was African Culture Night, a cultural exploding soiree that offered a silent auc- tion featuring beautiful artwork from local artists and students, performances by Bal- let Creole, and a traditional African meal. The night was a great success and funds will go towards building an agricultural school in Kenya, to go along with the school built there just a few years ago that was funded by the St. Anne's community. St. Anne's Semi Formal 2011 is fast approaching and Student Cabinet con- tinue to prepare for the "Neverland" themed event, as ticket sales began on Wednesday, December 7th and will go until the 14th. or Larnbton. The trailer was parked at a business located on Cambridge Street in Goderich. Subsequent investigation revealed the driver had a sus- pended driver's licence. Attempted murder suspect arrested Lakeshore Advance Me co-worker who called police stating he had found the seriously injured Steve I.ithgow has been charged with attempted murder. Kirk Allan Wanklin, 51, was arrested Friday and presented to a justice of the peace today. 1 lis next court appearance is set for Monday by video. l.ithgow, 51, a Warwick Township contrac- tor, suffered head injuries at a job site on North Forsyth Street on Dec. 1, I.ithgow was refinishing hardwood floors at the house when he was attacked. l.ithgow remains in serious condition in a coma at the critical care unit of a London hospital. Wanklin has been a long time friend of the I.ithgow family and has most recently been residing with them in the Warwick'Ibwnship home. He is from the Windsor area. The severity of the attack and the nature of Lithgow's injuries upgraded the investigation from aggravated assault, police said earlier this week, A very violent attack with a weapon caused a massive head injury, Det.
