When people think of art they may
think of a painting or framed print.
Organizers of a one -time -only charita-
ble art auction say collectors are donat-
ing many different types of art to the
Nov 24 event near Exeter.

1.j,.Auction have donated unique and qual-
ity collectible pieces ranging from a
child's toy logging truck (crafted by Bill
Siemon), to a decorative birdhouse
(handcrafted by Mervin Johnson), to a
walking stick, clock, sculptures, base-
ball cards, jewellery, coffee-table books,
and more unique collectibles. There are
also originaj watercolours, prints, and
other paintings being donated. Donors
receive a charitable gift receipt for
income-tax purposes.
This charitable art auction with a
twist will support the creation of a new
Woodland Reflection Shelter. This new
pavilion created through community
fundraising will be a place to relax,
reflect, enjoy nature, and remember
loved ones at the Morrison Dam Com-
memorative Woods along the South
Huron Trail.
Generous donors have donated doz-
ens of fine collectibles and organizers
are hoping they will have close to 100
pieces at the auction. The event takes
place at Ironwood Golf Club east of
Exeter, and it will include a live auction,
silent auction, special 'buy -now' feature
pieces, one complimentary drink ticket,
and Hors d'oeuvres as well as a cash
bar. Tickets are only $5 in advance or
$10 at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Live auction starts at 8 p.m. There are
only 120 tickets available to the auction,
and many tickets were already sold at
press time, so organizers encourage you
to get your ticket now.
The naming of the metal sculpture of
an oak tree, designed and produced by
students at South Huron District High
School, was auctioned at the 2011 Con-
servation Dinner in April. During the
Nov. 24 one-time auction event, the
foundation will announce the naming
of the tree,

St. Anne's hosts Christmas `fair'
Event set for Nov 24

St. Anne's Catholic Secondary
School is hosting a one-night event to
help developing countries while pro-
moting the idea of a fair Christmas
here on home turf.
From 4:30 p.m. till 9 p.m., the stu-
dents for Social Justice group is host-
ing a fair Christmas to increase
awareness about the importance of
being ethical consumers and purchas-
ing fair trade whenever possible.
Ten Thousand Villages will be selling
their projects and there will be infor-
mation about fair trade as well as other
social justice issues.
The event, being jointly hosted by
Ten Thousand Villages and St. Anne's,
will feature the sale of fair trade
chocolate, coffee and tea, Each
purchase supports families in the Glo-
bal South.

Diane Carson, a volunteer for the
Christmas Bureau, accepted donations
from the Grand Bend Women's Insti-
tute at the November meeting.
Diane explained how donations were
allotted and the gathering of these
donations.
President Donna Lovie presided for
the business meeting. It was noted
that April 26, 2012 will be the date for
the Annual Spring Awakening. The
Grand Bend WI has hosted this event
for several years. ROSE (Rural Ontario
Sharing Education) Program co-ordi-
nator reported on the recent success-
ful "X" quilt workshop.
The WI book club will meet on Dec.
8 at 2 o'clock. The book to be read and
reviewed is, The Heart Specialist, by
Claire Holden Rothman. The Grand

Bend WI new display at the Grand
Bend Library is titled, Christmas Past
Memories. A written exercise in getting
our homes ready for winter was very
interesting. Many activities were
accomplished by the ladies including
gardening, house preparations and
clothing sorting. A social time of play-
ing board and card games concluded
this meeting.
Our December meeting will be a
catered meal on Dec. 15 at 12 o'clock.
