The Grand Bend Community Foundation hosted the event to honour a small number of the amazing leaders in this community and saluted everyone who contributes through their gifts of time, talent and expertise to make Grand Bend a better place. Blooms for Lambton Shores and Bluewater Lynda Hillman -Replay Lakeshore Advance The Municipality of Lambton Shores, a finalist in the 10,001 20,000 population category of the 2011 National Edition of Communi- ties in Bloom, received a 5 Bloom rating and a special mention for Grand Bend Beach revitaliza- tion. Following their evaluation of the community, volunteer judges Sandy Cairns (Gravenhurst, ON) and Odette Sabourin-Dumais (Saint -Bruno, QC) wrote, "Lambton Shores is a municipality comprised of amalgamated towns and villages, located on the southern shores of Lake Huron. Nature lovers will dis- cover in the area freshwater beaches and dunes, abundance of wildlife, Carolinian forests and a unique oak savanna. The Grand Bend Beach revitalization project has contributed greatly to create a space that is more family oriented and to enhance the natural beauty of the beach and lake area. The many improvements include beau- tification with addition of gardens and native habitats as well as a boardwalk and look out areas" CHI member Ruth lllman said this is wonderful news and was thrilled to learn that Lampton Shores was one of three finalists (froth all population categories for the Environmental Action Award. " This says a lot about what we are doing throughout Lambton Shores to preserve, protect and promote our sensitive environmental areas and all of the projects which pro- mote energy efficiencies.
