Lakeshore Advance, 2012-07-18, Page 18A 60 kflometer walk prompts local woman to cut her hair for cancer research F,, jlynda HIIIman-Repley Lakeshore Advance Rapunzel has nothing on Elly Jamieson when it comes to hair- and now that hair is com- ing off. Jamieson, who has been employed by Colonial Gables for the past 37 years has always been known for her cascading hair. In the past few years she has offered to cut her hair for charity but that option never materialized- until now. That is where Jaime Eckel steps in. Her friend Jaclyn Rader is doing a 60 kilometer - two -day walk in support of her mom Brenda who has cancer, and Eckel wants to help the cause and her friend. The Shoppers Drug Mart'Weekend to end Wom- en's Cancers will benefit the Campbell Family Institute at the Princess Margaret Hospital thanks to the courageous efforts of everyday people making a difference. And two of those wotnen are Eckel- who will walk 60 kilometers for her friend's mom and Elly, who will cut her hair so dollars can be raised for research are part of that effort to end breast and gynecologic cancers diseases. One in seven Canadian women will be diagnosed with a can- cer -related disease in her lifetime. Together these two local women will help impact the lives of thousands across this country. At the Gables Jam Nite on August 22 Brittany Kadlecik will cut Jamieson's hair and the girls are asking that everyone wear pink in support of the cause. Jamieson's hair will go to a Canadian company. Pledge sheets are available at many local businesses including Archies Beach Club, Sea Jeweils, Colonial Gables, Sunset Cafe, Oakwood Resort and Lakeshore Advance. Eckel hopes to raise $5,000 and Mike Coon from Compex Display has donated stand alone thermometers, that will be at Colonial -Gables to gauge the donations.
