Lakeshore Advance
We can help, is the mantra from the Grand Bend
Area IEealth Centre and well deserved.
As a model for many health centres, the board of
this one celebrated their 12th general meeting.
Max Morden was Chair of the June 25 meeting
and talked about a seminar he attended called Act-
ing Today, Shaping Tomorrow. 'Ibis was an inter-
national conference held in 'Toronto June 9th and
10th, policymakers, politicians and healthcare
leaders from around the world shared their ideas
on how to improve health and increase the sus-
tainability of healthcare systems by enabling many
more people to access the Community Health
Centre model of care.
Community I lealth Centres seem to he the best
kept secrets- where many communities are just
learning how vital they are to health care while at
the same time Grand Bend's is considered by
many, including MINS, to be a model.
Workshops and speakers from across Canada,
the United States and around the world shared the
latest on how Community health Centres can
improve population health and strengthen the sus-
tainability of health care systems.
Morden said it was interesting that Boston was
the first (:I IC in the USA but that Canada, specifi-
cally Saskate vnn, were ahead of the game and had
a CI IC in 1944.
"We want to keep people well, putting patients
first," said Morden adding, "I lealthy community
means healthy lives."
Both members Chris Thompson and Dr. Michael
I loare have completed their term of office as direc-
tors. Thompson WaS not able to attend the event
but Morden said her knowledge of community was
an asset to this board and she helped the CI IC
evolve and grow because. Of Dr. Hoare "he saw the
big picture and could also focus on the little
details." Morden said both 'Thompson and I loare
were invaluable to the (:I IC.

In the lune 29th edition of the Lakeshore Advance it was
noted that Lanlbton Shores agreed to cover Mummer's
share of the costs of the proposed Treatment Plant. This
information did come up in conversation with former
mayor Gord Minielly after the July 23rd special council
meeting where the agreement with Lampton Shores, Blue -
water and Southhurin was signed, but was not part of a
council agenda at any time, This was a verbal discussion
when the mayor was asked about how Bluewater would pay
for the plant. 'Ihe Lakeshore Advance regrets the confusion
information has caused.
