Many of the recommendations have been mapped out in the recently completed beach consul- tation study and staff asked for council direction regarding some of ,the bigger requests. Council said fees should go up in the 2012 budget as they are "archaic". Coun- cil Doug Bonesteel said it is clear the resi- dents don't want "Coney Island" . Councilor Martin Underwood felt they could by-law themselves to death and how bad could it be for men and women exercising on the beach. Scott said two fitness centres are tax payers and they could be "opening the flood gates" if they say yes to these groups. Coun- cilor John Russell said they did a study and should be sending the right message, "that the beach is open for business." Councilor I,orie Scott is concerned that once they say yes for the wedding requests, they will be inundated with requests. Bonesteel sug- gested they check Out each request case by case.
