"Rural communities are stronger in Huron -Bruce thanks to key investments made by the McGuinty government in health care, education and the economy. We have accomplished so much since 2003, but there is still work to do. There has been over $75 million in infrastructure investments, two new schools, seven Family Health Teams, the Walkerton Clean Water Centre and much, much more. I want to ensure that Huron -Bruce continues to move forward as we create a brighter future together for our children and grandchildren," said Carol Mitchell. Carol was nominated by Port Elgin business owner and long-time supporter Mark Kraemer. Jack Riddell, former Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food and local Member of Provincial Parliament (1973-1990), seconded the nomination. Carol was first elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Iluron-Bruce in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. She was appointed as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in January 2010. Prior to that she held a variety of positions in the McGuinty government, including: Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Long Term Care and Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus. Carol was born in Clinton and raised Goderich Township. She was a small business owner in Clinton and Bayfield for 10 years. She became a councillor with the Town of Clinton and after serving one term di Prior to 2003, the Conservative government gutted our classrooms and fired thousands of nurses, claiming they were as obsolete as hula - hoops. We're the only party with a positive plan for Ontario's future — whether it be health care, education, energy or the economy. We're just getting out of the hole that the previous governments dug." — Carol Mitchell she became Reeve. In the first election of the newly amalgamated municipality of Central Huron, which included Clinton and the Township of Goderich and iluliett, Carol was elected Reeve. As Reeve, Carol also served as a member of Huron County Council. In 1999, she was elected as Warden. The next year she was re-elected Warden and became the first Warden to be elected to two consecutive terms in over one hundred years. "Prior to 2003, the Conservative government gutted our classrooms and fired thousands of nurses, claiming they were as obsolete as hula -hoops. We're the only party with a positive plan for Ontari ' future - whether it be hea care, education, energy the economy. We're just getting out of the hole that the previous governments dug. We can't let thein do it again. There's too much at stake - especially now that we're turning the corner to a better tomorrow."
