scholarships as part of youth

Each spring, Ontario 3rd grade children look forward to
participating in the 'biggest cabbage plant you can grow'
scholarship gardening program.
Teaching a new generation of gardeners certainly has its
rewards.
Providing 3rd grade students with free cabbage plants
while inspiring schools in harvesting the biggest cabbage
they can grow, is not only a great way to learn about plants,
but a novel way to teach appreciation of where our food
comes from. It's simple and fun.
This school program creates a fun way to promote the
joys of gardening while 3rd graders get their hands dirty;
taking pride in growing these mega cabbages. Within
10-12 weeks expect these plants to he ready for their
close-ups, and how exciting will it be when they are used
in a favourite recipe.
Bonnie Plants will award ten $200 scholarships to ten
Ontario students. In addition, three classes will have a
chance to win one of three free class trips to Long Point
Eco Adventure Centre.

gardening," says Jeff Howe, president and third generation
Fernlea Flowers nursery owner, "We hope this program
