Janice Pym was talking recently with someone she's known
for years about her upcoming book and tour.
"Ile said, 'You've coupe far from being that shy girl in high
school," she recalled.
Pym recently moved back to Forest, the town in which she
grew up and attended school before leaving for careers in the
corporate world and country music.
The move back home and the derision to write the book
was made after suffering a stroke 19 months ago.
"lt left me paralyzed on the right side and no voice for the
initial period," Pym said.
"So, l said, 'What do I do now?'
Pym said she had always wanted to write a hook, and life

has given her plenty of material.
Born with albinism that left her with only 10% of her sight,
she became completely blind about eight years ago, in part
due to the complications of diabetes.
"I went to regular school," she said about her early life in
Forest. 1 never used a cane. Distances were a challenge, but
1 didn't know any different."
Near the end of high school she moved with her family to
Hanover where she got to know Jamie Warren, who went on
to become a country musician.
Pym was already a fan of country music.
"'they said I went to sleep as a baby to !lank Williams, so t
guess it was in ire."
She and Warren stayed in touch during the years Pym was
building a career with Xerox, which took her to several cities
including Saint John, New Brunswick. After she left that
company several years ago, Warren travelled east to visit her
and pass along an idea.
"Ile said, 'You have way too much going for you and we
need your organizational skills. So, l think you should come
to work in music."'
She followed his advice and ended up working in country
music for several years, managing artists and doing other

work behind the scenes.
'the book combines that experience with the rest of her life
story "and the hurdles I've overcome to get here;' Pym said.
It's being released as an e -book by Universal Music's Fon-
tana subsidiary at the end of April, combined with an all
of country songs contributed by several artists, she said. -
'Ihey're songs that are special to her and serve as the titles
of the book's chapter's, Pym said.
This spring, she's also heading out an 0 14 -date tour with
Warren and fellow country singers Willie Mack and Diane
Chase, which will stop at the Royal Canadian Legion hall in
Forest April 28.
Pym said she has done motivational speaking in the past
and will open shows by getting up on stage and telling jokes.
Pym said she used her experience as a songwriter to come
up with the book's title, I'm Not Blind, You Are.
"1 understand the value of a metaphor and it's a metaphor
for 'I'm not stupid.'
It's also a dig at some (Attie things Pym has heard over the
years when people
say, "I know so-and-so and he's blind, do you?
"So, It's kind of a metaphor for all the crazy things sighted
people do."
'Ihe book launch was at the Forest Legion last Thursday.
