Pedestrian charged after crash with car
OPP report
Lakeshore Advance
On April 1, at approximately 12:30
pm a South Huron male was walking in
the west alley of Exeter when he and a
car travelling in the alley crashed
together. Significant damage was made
to the windshield of the vehicle and the
pedestrian suffered upper body inju-
ries. Following the collision, the pedes-
trian allegedly became involved in a
verbal altercation with the driver and
he then spit in her face. The pedestrian
and driver were known to each other.
The pedestrian was treated at the South
Huron Hospital and later released.
Significant investigation was com-
pleted at the scene, with the pedestrian
and speaking to witnesses. As a result,
the pedestrian has been charged with
one count of Mischief Under $5,000,
one count of Assault and one count of
Breach Probation. A 30 year old South
Huron man will answer to his charges
in the Ontario Court of Justice - Exeter
on May 19, 2011.
Computer repair scam
Huron OPP has investigated a report
of a scam involving computer repairs.
A Blyth resident called police after get-
ting caught in a scam. The victim was
contacted by an unknown person via
telephone. The person had a very heavy
accent and advised the victim that he
was having trouble with his computer
being slow due to viruses. The victim
followed instructions from the caller
about accessing his computer and then
the caller seemed to take control of his
computer remotely to fix it.
This went on for a significant
amount of time and at the end the
caller requested payment. The victim
offered to mall a cheque to the
stammer but then a credit card
number was provided. There were
further calls from the caller and in the
end charges were made to the credit
card which were significantly higher
than agreed upon.
Police are reminding the public to
be wary of scammers. Be especially
cautious of services being offered to
you when you haven't sought them
out. If someone tells you that some-
thing is wrong with your house or your
computer or anything that you own,
do not agree to any repairs or provide •
any information on the spot. If you
think the person may be telling you the
truth about an item that may require
repairs, YOU make the calls to trusted
companies and get quotes for the work
to be done.
