Community groups in
South Huron are working
together to make winter fun
by creating a number of new
events in Exeter this Holiday
Monday, February 21.
The Exeter Lions Club
started the snowball rolling
with Family Day with the Exe-
ter lions Club and other com-
munity groups have joined in
to add one event after another
and it has snowballed (par-
don the pun) into a commu-
nity effort called Family Day
Winterfest South Huron.
"We are looking forward to
our second annual Family
Day breakfast, and to Family
I)ay Winterfest South Huron,
as this is a great opportunity
to give back to the community
for all (dons Club members,
said Paul Scott, President of
the Exeter lions Club.
The list of Family Day
events is a long one. A break-
fast, snowperson making con-
test, tobogganing, free indoor
and outdoor family skating,
free family snowshoeing, fire-
works by the trail, and free
moonlit hike, are just some of
the activities being planned
for February 21. Events take
place at MacNaughton Park in
Exeter and at South Huron
Recreation Centre.

Chairman of the Friends of
the South Huron Trail.
The Exeter Lions Club
hosts a breakfast at South
Huron Recreation Centre
from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. ($6 for
adults, $4 for children) to
kick off the day.
Then there is 'In Motion'
free family skating at South
Huron Recreation Centre
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. thanks
to sponsors the Exeter (dons
Club, C.E. Reid & Sons, JMR
Electric, Jim Scott Enter-
prises, Exeter Lions Club,
and Municipality of South
Iluron.
"You'll find fun and
excitement for the whole
family in South Huron on
Family Day," said Jo -Anne
Fields, Community Services
Manager with the Munici-
pality of South Huron. "You
can experience great food,
outdoor adventure and lots
of cool activities while creat-
ing unforgettable family
memories."
Family Day Winterfest
South Huron continues with
events throughout the after-
noon and evening.
The Optimist Club of
South Huron and the Ausa-
ble Bayfield Conservation
Authority (ABCA) are part-
nering to offer free family
snowshoeing and winter
scavenger hunt at Mac -
Naughton Park starting at
3:30 p.m. and a second time
slot begins at 4:30 p.m. This
is a rare opportunity, thanks
to the Optimist Club, for
people to try using snow-
shoes without having to pay
the usual rental fee. ABCA
staff will also be there to
help you. (A limited number
of snowshoes will be availa-
ble for loan for those who do
not have snowshoes). Par-
ticipants are encouraged to
dress for the weather and
wear comfortable low-
heeled boots and if you have
some, bring your own
snowshoes.
Volunteers from The Opti-
mist Club of South Huron
will be selling chili and a roll
with a drink all afternoon.
(Proceeds go to club
programs).
The South Iluron Opti-
mists host the Snow Person
Building Contest all day with
judging at 5 p.m. Prizes will
be awarded.

alive and well in South

Huron Optimist Club.
Business contributors to
the community event
include New Orleans, 'Tim
Hortons and Presto Movies,
among others.

Bach Music Festival of
South Huron will also be
taking part this Winterfest.
Don't be surprised to hear
some beautiful music while
enjoying Family Day Winter -
fest South Iluron. Presto
Movies Exeter will be donat-
ing a sound system for the
day. (The Bach Music Festi-
val of Canada is being held
locally in Exeter and South
Iluron, July 11-17 2011. Visit

Trivitt Memorial Anglican
Church, the South Huron
Fire Department - Exeter
Station, and Friends of the
South Huron Trail, are part-
nering to host a small fire-
works display at Mac -
Naughton Park over Exeter
Dam (weather permitting,
after sunset, around 6:30
p.rn.). The display will he
about 15 minutes in length.
The First Exeter Scouts
will have a campfire on
from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. for
families to gather around to
warm themselves. Familie!
are also invited to bring
their own pre-cooked hot
dogs to cook on the open
grill.
The South Huron Opti-
mists will sponsor hot dogs
for roasting for the first 200
children. All children must
be supervised by an adult.
The South Huron Recrea-
tion Centre will be selling
'Escape to a London Knights
Game' at a special rate. (The
game is London Knights
playing the Windsor Spit-
fires at the John Labatt
Centre, with puck drop at 2
p.tn. Adults are $16.75 and
children 12 and under are
$14.50 including HST). Fam-
ilies are responsible for their
own transportation. For

The Friends of the South
Huron Trail's first Moonlit
Snowshoe Walk takes place
this year. This guided walk is
for adults and supervised
children, and takes place at
7 p.m. Bring a flashlight and
your own snowshoes if you
have them. (A limited
number of snowshoes will
be available for use at no
cost for this special event).
Even with all these groups
actively organizing a great
holiday Monday, more vol-
unteers and organizations
are invited to become part
of this growing event. If any
