"u.iiGi !"`/. . `+iisiMti +Yrir Fw R. .+s :: --. ► —:-- l Wind power company buries power dines Suncor and Acciona, owners of the Ripley Wind Power Project, have just finished burying the wires between the wind farm and the local distribution system, as well as all overhead lines near Concession 6/Sideroad 30 and Concession 4/Sideroad 25. A letter from the wind power company discussing the buried power lines was sent to Huron -Kinloss Twp. council. Paul Austin, community relations manag- er of Acciona Wind Energy Canada, states in the letter the work was being done as an industry best practice and will separate all common "neutral" wires between the two systems in the event of outages/anomalies related to electrical storms or systemic fail- ures. Acciona and Suncor have conducted thor- ough studies of the wind f ann to determine if electromagnetic fields or power quality might be linked to the health concerns reported to the township by area residents. "We have not been abbe to confirm that such a link exists," said Austin. "However, by burying the lines and :vers, this removes the basis for inceptions about the collector system that people may have had, said Austin. "The systems will now be separate. Reasonably, the engineer- ing . enhancement could provide peace of mind to those who have had concerns, and if so, we would welcome that outcome as well." "We consider our relationship with the Ripley community • to be for the long-term and one that should be mutually beneficial," writes Austin. "It is our hope to continue to find ways to improve and enhance the oper- ations of the Ripley Wind Power Project, and ensure our stakeholders' concerns con- tinue to be heard. We - will work toward keeping the lines of communication open while producing clean energy to power 24,000 Ontario homes and displace the equivalent of 66,000 tonnes of carbon diox- ide per year." Earlier this year, residents of the area near the wires and overhead lines, came to the township complaining of major health con- cerns, such as severe headaches, and asking for council's help in dealing with the owner of the wind farm. Mayor Mitch Twolan agreed that • it's a good idea for Acciona Energy to address the health concerns of the area residents. County speed limit changes The Bruce County Highways Department has adjusted two speed limit zones within the township. The 50 km speed zone on `Hwy 86 in Lucknow has been extended 100 names east of Washington Street to include the entrances for Cliff's Plumbing & Heating, Hamilton Fuels Ltd. and J.A. Porters. A 70 km speed litnit has been established on Bruce Road 1 at the intersection of Bruce Road 6 (Holyrood Comer) Whitechurch Hall ` Board The Whitechurch Hall Board has been operating the Whitechurch Hall for many years and the board is pursuing an interest in creating a not-for-profit "Friends of Whitechurch Hall" corporation. Huron -Kinloss 'Avp. staff commented that the initiative will serve notice that the local community is very keen to preserve the hall and in doing so a not-for-profit organization will qualify for many funding opportunities. The Whitechuneh Hall board wanted to make council aware of their intentions and have requested some staff:: resources from time -to -time. Pound keeper Huron -Kinloss gip: staff received a letter of resignation from Fred Henderson as a pound keeper. Henderson noted to clerk Sonya Watson he is resigning due to. the fact that he no longer has 'water or feed in his barn. Currently James Irwin and Don Murray serve as pound keepers for the township but are both located in the Kinloss ward. Watson thinks another pound keeper is needed in the Huron ward. Council istred and will look to advertise locally and speci- fy that it be located in Huron ward. a www movielir)ks.c Stolen property On the night of Nov. 19, a Huron - Kinloss Twp. truck gas tank from a 1998 pick-up truck was detached from the truck itself and the fuel fill pipes were cut from the 2003 pick-up puck. Staff commented that both trucks were parked in the Ripley arena at the time. The OPP were notifie. Estimated damage is $1,500.
