Starting a new year;
back to work at Sentinel
It has been over a year
now, as Garit Reid wrote
last week, and so I have
returned to work as editor
of the Lucknow Sentinel.
That means my new
little girl,- Tristan, is a
year old and my
maternity leave has
come to. an . end. Big
brother Trey is happy
to have a sister and the
rest of the family is doing: well.
There came some challenges with
the new addition caring for an
extra body in the household and get-
ting into. a .different schedule. Now
comes a new challenge with having
to manage a full -tithe job with a
family and getting use to another
different .routine.
I am sure I will adapt to these
chan4es as I have adapted to the
many other changes. in my life - • I
know we will survive. Despite the
pleasure of staying at home with my
family, I am glad to be back at work.
It feels. that a year went by quick-
ly but I missed being with my fellow
co-workers - Pat, Ruth and Betty
Anne. I call being back at the old job
a Christmas present to myself and I
see it as a good way to start the new
year.
However, this also sadly means
that Garit will now be moving on.
I appreciated his help over the past
year, filling in for me as editor,
and I wish him all the best with
his future endeavours.
I may not be as avid a hock-
ey fan as Garit but I do hope
to continue to offer informa-
tion that interests everyone. I
look forward to being out in
the community regularly
again - seeing old and new faces and
attending all the many events and
activities in the area. This is my
hometown and I am proud to be a
part of the community.
I hope everyone had a very Merry
Christmas and from myself and the
rest of the staff~ at the Lucknow
Sentinel, we Wish everyone a safe
and happy New Year!

Two area teens were nominated for the 1999 Junior
Citizen of the Year Awcfrds. Bridget Hogan of RR 7

At an upcoming meeting, the Lucknow Central School
Community Advisory Council would be discussing a pro-
posal by the Bluewater District Board that would see stu-
dents dismissed early the first Wednesday of every
month. The proposal addresses an increasing need for
teacher training time due to changes in the curriculum
and the loss of professional development days.
Come January, . the rotting wood floor joint system in
the Lucknow Legion's Jubilee Room would be removed
and replaced. Eighteen months after implementing a
huge fundraising effort, $50,250 sitting in an account for
the floor replacement was then `enough to start the job.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hamilton, of Con. 4
Kinloss, was threatened by fire destruction but the out-
break was quelled before it got out of control. The out-
break was caused by an overheated chimney. Damage,
from fire and water, to the ceiling and partition, was
around $500.
The Market Store proprietor Norman Wellwood, of
Wingham, confirmed that he was interested in disposing
of the business, which had been listed for sale for a time.
Wellwood stated that management of two stores, the
other store in Wingham, was too much to handle:
