GREEN DIGESTER CONES FOR SALE
The Township has Green Digester Cones for sale at a cost of $55/each (includes caddy).
Food waste is reduced to its natural components of water, carbon dioxide
and asmall residue. Using a Green Cone digester
reduces the amount of food waste in landfills and disposal costs,
as well as putting nutrients back into the environment.
Digesters can be reserved by calling the Huron Landfill at
519-395-3500 during normal hours of operation (Tuesdays,
Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) or purchased onsite.
Payment must be by cash or cheque at the time of pick up.

THOMPSON
Donald Campbell Thompson, of
Lucknow, passed away on
Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at
Wingham Hospital at the age of
74. He was born in Goderich,
Ontario on May 8, 1935 to the late
Campbell and Margaret
Thompson. Beloved husband of
Beverley (Ashton) Thompson to
whom he was married for fifty
years. Don will be sadly missed by
his daughters Susan Thompson of
Kitchener, Nancy (Brian) Simpson
of Dutton, and Donalda (Darrol)
Boyd of Acton. Special Grandpa to
Caitlin, Dylan and Courtney
Simpson and :; Brady Boyd.
Survived by his sisters Patricia

(Murray) Hunter of Wingham,
Joanne MacFarlane of Brampton,
brother-in-law Fraser (Catherine)
Ashton of Gatineau, Quebec and
mother-in-law Eileen Ashton of
Lucknow. Also survived by his
aunts Helen Rothwell, Jean
Martin, Kathleen Collyer, Arnetta
Thompson and Edith Thompson;
many cousins, nieces and
nephews. Predeceased by mother
and father-in-law Janet and Lloyd
Ashton. Don lived and worked in
Lucknow all his life. He attended
Lucknow Public School and was a
graduate of Lucknow High School.
During his youth Don was -active in
sports, playing both baseball and
hockey on local teams until he
attended Ryerson. In 1950 - 1951
Don was a member of the
Wingham : Juvenile hockey team
that was an All -Ontario Finalist.
Don was a member of Lucknow
United Church where he served
on the Board of Trustees. He was
aI ,o a member :of the Old Light
Lodge #184. Following his interest
in the newspaper business, Don
studied journalism and printing; at
Ryerson institute in Toronto.,
Publishing and printing were a
large *part of his life. At the age of
ten he started to work after school
and on weekends with his father at
The Lucknow Sentinel. After eight
years of part time work, in 1953 he
joined his father on a full time
basis. His wife Bev and mother
Margaret worked with him follow-
ing his father's death in 1964.
From 1969-1975 he owned and
published The Teeswater News. In
1977 Don sold The Lucknow
Sentinel to Signal Star Publishing
in Goderich. After the sale of The
Sentinel, Don and Bev operated
the Sepoy Stationery and Printing
Shop and Lottery Shoppe. Don
was a distributor for several lotter-
ies across a number of western
Ontario counties. These included
two Ontario charitable lotteries,
Cash for Life and Pot of Gold.
From 1980 to 1997 Don and Bev
operated an Investment business.
With the sale of this financial
enterprise, they retired from the
business world. Don had a keen
interest in the history and develop-
ment of his community. As a
young man he served as a volun-
teer fireman for ten years. For the
Lucknow centennial in 1958, along
with his parents, Don assisted in
editing and compiling the centen-
nial history book, "A Century in
Retrospect: The Story of
Lucknow". Don and Bev later edit-
ed a second book of Lucknow's
history, "A Glimpse of the Past", in
1983. Dore made the most of his
retirement. He enjoyed having
more time to spend with his family,
grandchildren and friends. He con-
tinued his habit of reading a wide
range of daily and weekly newspa-
pers, watching the TV news and
informational programmes, shar-
ing morning coffee and conversa-
tion with his friends, volunteering,
travelling, being in Florida for the
Blue Jays Spring Training and
spending the summer months at
his cottage at Amberley Beach.
Visitation took place at MacKenzie
& McCreath Funeral Home,
Lucknow on Saturday, Dec. 5,
2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service was conduct-
ed on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at
1:30 p.m., with Rev. C. Harvey offi-
ciating. Mary Lou Raynard was
organist. Pallbearers were George
Anderson, Antoine Ashton, Darrol
Boyd,Larry Hackett, Ellwood
Irwin, Brian Simpson and David
Thompson. - Honorary -Pallbearers .
were , :Bob Hewat, Don Cameron
and Bob Reid. Flower bearers
were his grandchildren • Caitlin,
Dylan and Courtney Simpson.
Interment Greenhill Cemetery.

Section 238 (2) and By -Law 2007-130 of the Township of Huron -Kinloss every
municipality and local board shall pass a procedural by-[aw: for governing the calling,
place and proceedings of meetings,
AND TAKE FURTHER NOTICE THAT it is the intention of the Council of the
Township of Huron -Kinloss to change the regularly scheduled General Committee
meeting for January 2010 to:
January 11, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
The Council meeting will be held on January 18th, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.. Meetings are
held in the Township of Huron -Kinloss Council Chambers, 21 Queen Street Ripley,
Ontario.
Residents are also advised the 2010 Meeting Schedule is available on the Township
website at www.huronkinloss.com.
