Presents are great to give . and receive, but spending time. with fafhily is what makes the holiday season so spe- cial. I saw a lot of fami- lies from the area at the Lucknow Christmas -parade. It was great to see, people enjoying the floats go by and ear - to -ear smiles on all of the kids who saw .Santa and Mrs. Claus go by on their big sleigh. I enjoyed a hot cup of hot chocolate as I lis- tened to people sing Christmas songs during the tree lighting that took place right after the parade. Small town Christmases make me feel at home and Lucknow has made me feel that way ever since I started working at the :Sentinel. I'm looking forward to seeing to be' with family my mom's side of the family this weekend. They allcome to my parents' house every year since I can remember and everyone. brings something for .'Christmas dinner and it's always a deli- cious eli-cious assortment. Myfavourite is my mom's homemade stuff- ing. There's nothing like it. One thing I haven't started is my Christmas shopping. I guess you could say I'm the typical guy who waits until the last week to do his shop- ping. I really enjoy the big crowds and long lineups for peo- ple trying to cram:- in the last few days of Christmas 'shopping. That's a =little sarcasm, but seri- ously I just wait because I always make it a plan to do all of my shopping in. one day and it usually just ends up being the last few days leading up to Christmas Day. I hope everyone reading this can spend as much time with their family as possible because I know its my reason for the season. • Ruth Dobrensky The Sentinel is available on microfilm at: Goderich Library, 52 Montreal Street Goderich, N7A 1 M3 (from 1875) Goderichiibrary@huroncounty.ca and Kincardine Library, 727 Queen Street, Kincardine N2Z 1Z9 (frim 1875 to 1900 & 1935 to 1959) Jolly old St. Nick made an exciting early visit to the good boys and girls of the Lucknow area when he showed up at the St. Peter's Anglican Church last week (December 200S). He told stories of why he started giving pres- ents and the different names he is known as around the world.
