FERGUSON
On Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, Lester Ferguson,
a World War 11 veteran, died peacefully at his
residence in Kincardine. Lester was born in
Huron Township near Amberley on Aug. 11,
1917 to the late John Ferguson and Idella
Potter. After serving as a corporal in charge of
ambulances with the Fourth Canadian
Armoured Division during World War 0, Lester
lived in Toronto, working as a carpenter.
Following his marriage to Audrey MacMurchy
in 1948, he returned to the Ripley area to farm
on the 6th concession of Huron Township.
Lester, along with Audrey, was always very
involved in the community. He was one of the
founding members of Community Living Kincardine & District and served
on the CLKD Board for over forty years. Even this year, though his health
was failing, Lester managed to take in one of his favourite events the
Ripley Fall Fair. For many years, Lester was a member of the Ripley
Agricultural Society and served on many fall fair committees as well as
taking his tum as president. While farming, Lester also managed with
Audrey's assistance to be a lay preacher at Zion and Riversdale United
Churches for ten years. Pine River United Church .was Lester's church
from the time of his birth and Lester took an active part in church acjivi-
ties there all his life. It was very fitting that a service of remembrance end
celebration was held at Pine River United on Monday, Nov. 30. Assisting
as ushers were Gert Larsen, Charles Liddle: and Steve Eadie.
Participating in the candle lighting were Sandra Fry and Michael
Ferguson. Special music was provided by pianist Patt Lowry; organist
Dianne Rotteau; soloist Margaret Shoesmith; trio members .,Glenn Boyd,
Bob Rutledge, Lynn Lowry; piper Jennifer Farrell; and many other tal-
ented members of the Pine. River choir. Grandchildren Jon, Mike, Janice
and Stuart provided some, memories and thoughts about their grandfa-
ther. Rev. Robert Putman officiated at the service with Rev. Carol
(Ferguson) Bullock, Lester's niece, reading the scripture. Pallbearers
were Ken, Stuart, Janice, Doug, Michael, and Jonathan Eadie. Honorary.
Pallbearers were nephews Glen, Ron, Grant, Roy, and Kevin Ferguson
Mark Humphrey Murray and Lynn. Ferguson; and Larry Irwin.. Fiower
bearers were Kim Eadie and nieces Brenda Hutton, Marsha Stark, Carol
Halliday and Diane Ferguson. Lester was buried at the Ripley cemetery
and will be sadly missed by his wife Audrey, his; son Allan Ferguson, his
daughters Anne (Doug) and Joan (Ken) Eadie, grandchildren Janice,
Stuart, Michael, and Jonathan (Evadne) Eadie, great-granddaughter
Aliya Eadie and sister-in-law Margaret Ferguson as well as many nieces
and nephews. His brothers Bill and John (Myrtle) along with his sisters
Nan (Roy Geddes), Evelyn (Ed Pitt), Annie (Leonard Irwin), Wylda
(Wilmer MacKay), sister-in-law Norma Humphrey and brother-in-law
Cecil Humphrey have all predeceased him. Lester's niece Elaine Irwin
and his nephews Ron, Ernie and Ken Irwin, Clark and David • Ferguson
also predeceased him. Donations to Pine River United. Church and
Community Living Kincardine & District were greatly appreciated as
expressions of sympathy as were many, other acts of kindness. Funeral
arrangements were entrusted. to MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral
Homes. The Ripley Legion held a service of Remembrance for Lester, a
former padre, on Sunday, Nov. 29. It was very special for the family.

FERGUSON
The family of Lester Ferguson would like to express our sincere thanks
to the many, many people who have supported all of us during this diffi-
cult time. We appreciate everyone who took time out of their busy
schedules to attend the visitation and funeral at Pine River United
Church. Thank you to all those who have sent food, flowers and other
gifts to ourhomes and the church. Others have visited us or sent cards
and online condolences with comforting messages and stories about.
Lester which were greatly appreciated. Thanks to all those who made
financial contributions to Pine River United Church, Community Living
Kincardine & District and other charities in Lester's memory. We are
especially grateful to the members of Pine River United Church and Rev.
Robert Putman who worked hard to ensure a wonderful service of cele-
bration with Lester's favourite music and a Christian message just as
he had requested. We also appreciated the efforts of the staff at
Community Living who have . helped Allan cope with losing his father.
For many months, services from the Community Care Access Centre -
the VON, Red Cross Personal Support Workers', Physiotherapy and
Occupational Therapy helped Dad continue to be in his own home.
When he required time in Kincardine Hospital, he received excellent
care from all the doctors and nurses. We appreciated the emergency
staff attending to Dad in a timely manner many times over the past five
years. A special thanks to Dr. Knox and the staff at the Kincardine
Medical Centre for accommodating us with various medical requests
and giving us assistarfce when needed. The Ripley Legion has been
wonderfully attentive to Dad with all their visits, arranging for special
medical equipment, organizing the Legion service, and providing a deli-
cious lunch after the funeral. Finally we would like to thank the
MacKenzie & McCreath -Funeral Home staff and the OPP for their pro-
fessional services. Our journey with Lester the last few years has reaf-
firmed for us how lucky we are to live in a community where people read-
ily help and care for each other. Thanks again to everyone for being
there for Lester and for his family in so many different ways. May God
bless you all! Audrey Ferguson, Allan Ferguson, Anne and Doug Eadie,
Joan and Ken Eadie, and grandchildren Janice, Stuart, Michael,
Jonathan, Evadne and Aliya Eadie. - 50ar
