He was born in Wet Wawanosh Township on Sept. 9, 1930 to the late Gladys H de and Earl Cranston. George and Jane were -married at the ('s Manse)21,1951. Greatlymissed byfive sons; Bob St. Helen's on July (Barb) Cranston of Lucknow, Wayne (Mary) Cranston of Lucknow, Ray Cranston of Goderich (Rick Cranston of Lucknow and Paul Cranston also of Lucknow. Also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchil- dren and brother Allan (Margaret) Cranston of Lucknow. Predeceased by his brother Ronald (Kelly) Cranston and sister Evelyn Smith. Visitation was held from MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009. Proud grandpar- ents are Ken and Dylis Lockwood of Bluevale, Howard and Mary Lou Neable of Lucknow, and great-grandmother Mary Guest of Whitechurch. - 50ar 42 Obituaries ELDON HACKETT BRADLEY (WWII VETERAN) January .15, 1922- November 28, 2009 Eldon passed away suddenly at his home in Greenwood Court Nursing Home in Stratford, at noon on Saturday while sitting in his chair (just as he w,Anted). He had for- merly lived in Lucknow for 32 years after moving from his farm home in Ashfield Township, north of Goderich. He is mourned by his loving wife . of 65 years, Aliene Campbell Bradley whom he married on December 16th, 1943. Also left to mourn are one daughter Phyllis and son-in- law David Todd of Stratford and two grand- daughters, .Dr. Kate Todd of Guelph and Emma Todd of . Richmond, British Columbia. Eldon also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Evelyn Bradley of Point Clark andeight nieces and one nephew. They are Sandra and Gil Touringy of Calgary, Alberta; Brenda and Don Whitfield of Sault Ste Marie; Norman and Cathy MacLennan of Listowel; Maureen and Dave Thomas of Goderich; Mary and Bruce Scott of Huron Township; Maxine and Greg Alton of Wingharn; Movita Bradley; Michele Bradley and Madonna and Bruce Terpstra all of Waterloo. There are also many cousins, great nieces and nephews and great -great nieces and nephews who will miss Eldon. Eldon was pre -deceased by his par- ents, John Alexander Bradley and Mary Hackett as well as his younger. brother Jim Bradley, all of Ashfield. He moumed the death of his ,only. son, Dr. John Bradley of Toronto in 2006. He was also pre -deceased by his sister-in-law Doris (Brown) and brothers-in-law Dr. Murray MacLennan and George Michie all of the Wingharn area, his father-in- law Walter Brown of Amberley and mothers-in-law. Estelle Brown and Dorthea Brown. Eldon was born and raised on the Bradley Homestead on Highway 21 just south of Amberley where he spent his early years attending Laurier School and then farming :with his father and younger brother. In 1942, at the age of 20, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and he served his country until the end of World War 11 in 1945. He was part of the Canadian Eastern Air Command and was stationed in Moncton, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following the war he returned home where he and Aliene purchased their own farm in Ashfield Township: and together set up and operated a mixed farming operation which developed into a registered and accredited herd of Holstein cattle of which Eldon was most proud. -I he milk from their cows was manu- factured into cheese at the Pine River Cheese Factory for many years. Both Eldon and Aliene were happy that their farm is still in operation today. In 1973 they sold the farm and Eldon built a new home for himself and Aliene in Lucknow. He enjoyed his semi -retirement but kept busy helping with field and barn work with his brother Jim as well as travelling and selling grass seed to other farmers in the area. He became a direc- tor of the West Wawanosh Fire InsuranceCompany where he worked for • 16 years. Eldon was always an active and participating person in his community where he was a member of the Amberley Loyal Orange Lodge, Pine River United Church (where he served on the board and was manager of the building committee for the new church erected in 1958), the Royal Canadian Legion Lucknow Branch 309, the Lucknow International Lions Club and Lucknow United Church, as well as a mem- ber of the Holstein -Friesen Association of Ontario. He and Aliene volun- teered for many community events including delivering Meals -On - Wheels. He enjoyed bowling, curling and a good euchre card gage until failing eyesight forced him to give up his work, volunteering and sports activities. In 2005 Eldon and Aliene moved to Stratford to be closer to family and they purchased a home in Hamlet Estates. in 2007 they moved into the assisted living Loft at Greenwood Court, and in June 2009 Eldon moved into the Nursing Home at Greenwood where he was. able to receive the extra care that he needed. ,He battled with, and. accepted, his blindness and deafness and decreased mobility during the last years of his life but kept his good humour, strong mind, dignity and love of family until his passing. Eldon's funeral service was conducted from the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home in Lucknow on Wednesday, Dec. 2, with a Legion Remembrance Service held prior. Rev. C. Harvey officiated. Memories were shared by daughter Phyllis and family, the Bradley cousins and the MacLennan cousins. Soloist was Carol Atkinson. Pallbearers were Greg Alton, Bruce Scott, Dave Thomas, George Gibson, Neil MacKenzie and George Anderson. Memorial donations may be made to Lucknow United Church or to Lucknow Legion Branch 309 Poppy Fund. Interment was held at Greenhill Cemetery in Lucknow immediately following the service.
