The newspaper
was always one of
the things foremost
in his mind and he
loved everything
about it."
Following the
sale of the Sentinel,
Don and Bev oper-
ated the 'Sepoy
Stationary and
Printing Shop,
which included a
lottery ticket busi-
ness. In 1979, the
stationary portion
of the business was
sold and the Lottery
Shoppe came into
being. Thompson
was involved in
various areas with
several lotteries
over the years and
was a 'distributor in
several western
Ontario counties
for the Cash for
Life and Pot of
Gold Lotteries, two
Ontario charitable
lotteries.
Thompson also
ran an investment
business from
about 1980 to 1997,
until he and Bev
retired.

Thompson made a
lot of friends and
contacts in the
Lucknow area and
for people like
Marg Finlay, who is
Thompson's wife's
aunt, and the for-
mer owner of
Finlay Decorators
of Lucknow, she
knows no one ever
had a bad thing to
say about the
revered community
man.
"He was dedicat-
ed to his family,
business and every-
one . always thought
the best of him,"
said Finlay. "He
always did his
utmost to do as
much as he could
for the conununi-
ty
Current publisher

Livingston used
Thompson's_ vast
knowledge of
newspapers.
"In the early
years of my career
at the Sentinel, Don
was my `go -to -per-
son'. He had a
wealth of informa-
tion stored in his
head," said
Livingston. He
knew family con-
nections and the
business connec-
tions and helped me
out many times
with background
information. He
was a very kind
person; a true gen-
tleman." •
Thompson was a
member of the
Lucknow United
Church.
He was the
beloved husband of
Beverley (Ashton)
Thompson; father
of daughters: Susan
Thompson,Nancy
(Brian) Simpson
and Donalda
(Darrol) Boyd; and
grandfather to
Caitlin, Dylan,
Courtney and
Brady. Also sur-
vived by sisters
Patricia (Murray)
Hunter and Joanne
McFarlane, moth-
er-in-law Eileen
Ashton and broth-
er-in-law Fraser
Ashton. He was
predeceased by par-
ents Campbell and
Margaret
Thompson.
Ian and Jean Montgomery of
Montgomery Ford Sales dropped
the puck on Friday night for the offi-
cial opening of the fifth annual
Lucknow Silver Stick Tournament.
Paul and Eleanor Henderson were
not able to attend and were missed.
