Lancers lose a rough one to Wolves
BY GARJT REID
Sentinel Staff
The Lucknow
Lancers took on
their WOAA
Senior A rivals the
Ripley Wolves,
for the first time
this season and it
was .a rough and
tumble affair. The
Wolves defeated
the Lancers 9 - 4
in a game where
special teams let
the Lancers down.
The Lancers
were ready to
bounce back from
an 11-3defeat
in
Elora last week,
but that wasn't the
case , as inconsis-
tent defensive
play hindered the
Team's offensive
chances.
"We were
awfully sloppy
down in their
end, said Lancers
head Coach Greg
Hamilton. ` `Once
we got possession
of the puck in
their end we just
started throwing it
away and giving
them chances to
go dawn and
score."
The first period
was back and
forth while both
teams sized each
other up. There
was a lot of neu-
tral zone play as
neither team
seemed to want to
control the puck.
They traded goals
and things looked
even going into
the second.
The Wolves
started the period
by taking a few
penalties, :but that
didn't seem to hurt.
them as they
reeled off two
shorthanded goals
in the period by
Ripley forward
Nick Locking.

they were able to
charge a come-
back by scoring
three powerplay
goals to tie things
up in the second
frame. h .
The c o mebacV
was short lived as ..
the Wolves scored
a powerplay goal
of their own to
take a: 5 - 4 lead
going into the
,third period.
The third period
was the. story of

frustration was
apparent on the
Lancers side as
they took to reel-
ing off eight fight-
ing majors. The
Wolves took part

fisticuffs as the
game ended with
gloves and .: At&:

It just adds•.
another chapter in
the rivalry
between the two
teams.
Scoring .. for the
Lancers' with two
goals was Ryan

Murray and : Mark
swered . goals, one
being the team's
third shorthanded
goal of the gime
and all score d by
Locking. He
rounded the game
out with four
goals.
"We know there
are guys on their
team that are
snipers and we
should be watch
ing them," said
Hamilton. "We
didn't do a very
good job of look -
in after 'their
shooters.
