Good samaritan returns life. ring to beach in Port Albert
Our life ring has
been returned! A
good samaritan
found it in Kinloss
Twp., gave it to
ACW Councillor
Marilyn
Miltenburg who
gave it to road
superintendent
Irian Van Osch
who returned it to
its proper place at
the beach. Thank
you to all involved,
you may have
saved a life.
We have had a
very busy summer
in the Port with
many fund-raising
events for our
upcoming Rev'n in
11 celebration.
Thank you to the
countless people
who helped out and
to those who
attended the
events. Special
thanks to Joe and
staff at the General
Store. While pro-
viding a vital serv-
ice to thiscommu-
nity Joe has also
played a huge role
in the success of -
this summer's
events, selling hun-
dreds of tickets, t -
shirts, providing
groceries at cost,
not to mention
being the local
information centre.
Many thanks
also to Christ
Church for provid-
ing a •much needed
venue for some of
this summer's
events including a
very successful
corn roast and
silent auction held
on Labour Day
weekend. Close to
300 people attend
ed this event thanks
to the efforts of
Tom and Carol
Arthur and their
team of helpers.
Port Albert is
slowly working
towards its goal of
raising funds for
the 175th celebra-
tion to be held in
2011. The ultimate
purpose of the cele-
bration is to raise
enough money in
2011 to make a
positive impact on
the community in
general, but most
importantly to pro-
vide recreational
facilities . for the
young people in
our area.
At our 150th
year celebration in
1986 enough funds
were raised to do
various upkeep and
improvements in
our = village. The
Port Albert & Area
Recreational
Society Inc. was
formed in 1987 and
administered the
money over the last l;
23 years. The
Rev'n in 11 ` com-
mittee is a part of -
the Recreational
Society and the
funds left over
from the 1986 cele-
bration have pro-
vided us with some
seed money to get
things rolling for
2011,•but much
more is needed.
The next fund-
raising event is one
that the Rev'n in 11
committee is . very
excited :about..
It
will be held at
Saltford Valley
Hall, Oct. 23 from
8 p.m.: to 1 p.m.
The evening will
start with appetiz-
ers being served
and entertainment
provided by local
artists, at 9 p.m.
The multi talented
Cliff Erickson from
Port Huron will
entertain us with
songs, jokes and
stories. The
evening will end
with local musi-
cians Benson
Brown, Bud
Mabon, Jenna
Ujiye,. Ashley
Anderson, Sarah
Koopmans and
Jamie Wallace.
