Local nurses are part of CarePartners group heading to Peru On Sept. 30 a group of 12 CarePartners Nurses including Denise Gilchrist and Karen Blackwell will join the Stratford Rotary Club and travel to Peru on a medical aid trip. The trip will involve 10 days providing clinics to remote vil- lages on the Amazon and the nurses will be treating patients of all ages with a variety of illness- es. The nurses will be working in three locations in Peru, El Triunfo, 48 km south of Iquitos on the only highway out of town, and 13 de Febrero (Feb. 13, named for the date they started the community), which is 32 kms south of Iquitos. Santa Maria Del Ojeal is on the Amazon River, and the nurses will be taking boats with all supplies to that location. The medical team consists of a physician, pharmacist, dentist and 14 nurses. There are 12 other people who will be doing a vari- ety of jobs such as transporting clients to the clinics and construc- tion and repair work in the vil- lages. There is the possibility of doing some additional work on the church that had been built three years ago with any • funds that are left over. Jean Aitcheson, who is a nurse at the Stratford hospital, is the leader of the medical aid trip. Aitcheson, along with• the Stratford rotary club has been able to make the connections with the rotary club in Peru, to set up clinics and to plan the trans- portation of supplies. Nurses were asked to collect items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sun- glasses and .old prescription eye- glasses. The nurses will be doing health teaching to help promote better health, and would like to hand out the above items to those who come to the clinic for treat- ment. As well, any donations that the nurses receive help to pur- chase medications and supplies to take on the trip. Aitcheson has a warehouse/depot • in Stratford where she collects supplies throughout the year, These sup- plies are used for her two medical aids trips per yea r, as well as other local groups that she . knows going on similar trips. Any sup- plies that can not be used on these trips, are trucked to St. Catharines to the "Warehouse of Hope", a place that collects supplies and will ship them to any place in the world that has a need for them. A few from the group recently. went to help Aitcheson with the task of organizing and packing supplies. Gilchrist and Blackwell hope to have . a successful medical and trip, and to be able to make a dif- ference in the lives of others. "We have been very pleased with the donations of items and cash that our community has' given us towards this trip," said Gilchrist. "Many of you came to our barbecue fund-raiser that we held in Wngham when we raised over $400. There is still time to donate. to Denise Gilchrist and Koren Blackwell this cause. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or mire. Checks can be made out to 'CNS' (Community nursing serv- ices) And they can be mailed to Carepartners P.O. Box 100 14 Queen Street Belgrave, Ontario NOG 1E0 As well there is a donation box located at Shear Design by Sally in Lucknow for cash donations. -.am 111111111111111111111,1m..- NAGI LCI) TV • The perfect combination of slim waffle, high resolution and compact size • Super IPS technology will dazzle you with incredible clarity and brightness • Widescreen • High Definition • 720p • Widescreen • High Definition • 720p • Widescreen • High Definition • 720p • Widescreen • High Definition • 720p • Widescreen • High Definition • 1080p FREE DVD PLAYER • Widescreen High Definition • 1080p FREE DVD PLAYER' PLASMA T V s The Pinnacle of Technological Triumph' The stunning aesthetics move you as much as the incredible Visuals.
