BY GARIT REID
Sentinel Staff
For Wingham
Police Officer
Darren Doucet it
will be an experi-
ence of a lifetime
as he has been
given the chance to
be part of the
Vancouver 2010
Integrated Security
Unit, run by the
James Mann
graduated with Distinction on
the Dean's Honours List from
the University of Waterloo with
a Bachelor of Applied Science
in Civil Engineering.
He is continuing his studies
with a Masters program
in the same field.

RCMP.
Doucet believes
the RCMP has
asked for around
4,000 officers from
all over Canada to
compliment the
security detail
which will be a
total in upwards of
12,000 personnel.
"The RCMP are

amount of security

ground, they can't

said Doucet.
"That's why they
put out a request to
all of the . police
services across
Canada."
After an applica-
tion process at the
Wingham Police
Services,
Doucet
was picked as the
lucky candidate to
represent his police
department.
Doucet is no
stranger to working
security details as
he was originally
military police
officer stationed
out of Halifax and
Camp Borden
(MP) for 13 years
before joining ` the
Wingham Police
and has done a
number of events
including 08 sum-
mits
nits and also pro-
vided i escorts for
people such as
Princess Diana and
Prince Charles
among other
things. For Doucet
it's one more life
experience that he
has the privilege to
experience.

it," said Doucet.
"It's just one more
thing on my career
list that I would
like to be a part
of"
Doucet doesn't
expect to get, a lot
of detail about
what he will be
doing until the
Olympics gets
closer due to secu-
rity concerns, but
he believes his job
will mainly consist
of security for - the
events, traffic con-
trol, but knows
there are a lot of
things he's quali
fie,d to do. Doucet
said he's there for
the experience and
to help out no mat-
ter what he's doing
for the security
detail in
Vancouver.
There will also
be a chance to see
world class athletes
from around the
• world, but Doucet
has work on his
mind an d will look
to focus •on the task
at hand while
working for. the
RC1VIP.
"I don't antici-
pate • going to the
events to watch,"
said Doucet. "My
understanding is
that I'm going
strictly for work. If
the opportunity to
spectate at the
events does present
itself, I would, pre-
fer to work."
That work ethic
is the same when
Doucet is working
as a police officer
in Wingham.
Doucet said even
on his days off he's
at the station trying
to find work for
himself.
One thing for
sure is there is no
lack of enthusiasm
from Doucet as he
waits for this once
in a life time expe-
rience.
"I'm really look-
ing forward to it,"
said Doucet. "It
doesn't really mat-
ter What they have
me doing. Just to
be there and to be a
part of it will be
fantastic."
An , interesting
footnote to
Doucet s
Vancouver 2010
security position is
that he and the
upwards of 12,000
personnel - will be
staying on three
cruise ships the
RCMP chartered to
house. everyone.
For Doucet, trav-
elling and tackling
new challenges is
something that is in
his blood.
"When I got the
news that . I was
picked, I was so
excited, h was
shaking;" said
Doucet. "it's defi-
nitely _ something
that I will remem-
ber."
