Human ' County is
eyeing the possibili-
ofmore
social housing to the
region the old -
school way.
After reviewing
statistics that show
the. county's waiting
list for geared -to -
income housing
continues to grow,
Warden Ken Oke
suggested : now may
be the time for the
county to consider
taking the reins of a
plan to build n,v,
units.
Oke says • the
move only makes
sense given the
demand and the
number of grants
available to move
forward` with such a
plan.
Social Services
administrator Dave
Overboe says while
the department
would welcome
such a move, the
main problem is a
lack of available
land in high -demand
areas, particularly
Goderich.
While Coun.
Bernie MacLellan
(Huron East)
expressed concern
about the feasibility

of the county getting
into the construction
business, Ode notes
the idea is to leadthe
project and contract
out the actual work.
In supporting
Oke's idea, , Coon.
Deb Shewfelt
(Goderich) says

shy about getting
involved with
social -housing con-
struction
n-struction projects,
because of the inher-
ent risk involved.
Oke notes .the
county could man-
age the :new units in
a fashion similar to
how :the Homes for
the Aged are suc-
cessfully operated.
The . committee
approved Oke's
motion -for areport
on the possibility to
be created by the

Management Team.
